It is agreed that some GT40's languish on the market for years and remain unsold.

You must be realistic in your selling price.

A current RF GT40 (space frame chassis) is priced at $126k less paint, wheels and tyres

The best GT40 are the ERA,CAV and Moody if you got the money.

Monocoque chassis is preferred to the space frame jobs.

if this is correct than what sort of money is fords gt selling for second hand???i am sure i heard around the 150k.....doc

Ford's GT is a different car. These were built by Ford USA in 05 and 06 (correct me if I am wrong) and production numbers were just north of 4,000. I have only seen one for sale in AUS (most likely has been more) and for memory is was $225K (this was a number of years ago).

If you are talking GT40 (replicas) then a quick look on carsales shows 9 for sale currently priced between $90K and $169K and I imagine varing fit, finish and quality exist here.

Regardless... if I had the coin I would like to have one in the garage.

There is one out here that is probably for sale.
It is a long time build car by an ex aircraft engineer.
The fella past away early this year.
He was a bit of a recluse and often said to me to come for a look, I tried a few times but every time I knocked on the door there was no one home?
I hear it is an older Roaring 40s car, and has permission from MVR (in NT when building ICV you need to apply to build with a build sheet, at the time carbs where legal and he had permission for downdraft webbers)
Apparently it is a really tidy build and in paint (Yellow with black stripes) but never been registered or complied.
I heard rummors around town years ago it was for sale and even had someone contact me through CC to see if I knew about the car and its condition.

Holman Moody for continuation series authenticity for historic racing for sure...

Mind you I'd suggest Gelscoe may top them... for the money you'd certainly hope so.

The money that these guys spend puts a whole new perspective of what cars can cost.

In my experience selling GT40's is like selling Cobra's. It all comes down to colour, styling and specification. If you choose popular colour, styling etc it will be a much easier sell. Also finishing detail and drive quality come into it as well. Pick an unpopula3r colour and you virtually need to give them away.

I know of a Cobra that has just sold. Sold in less than a week and even had genuine backup buyers. It was just nice looking car, popular style, well finished, older build. Price was fair to both owner and buyer, so certainly not the cheapest around, actually more towards the higher end.

I would argue our new PACE GT would give the best GT40 replica kits in the world a run for their money. Alloy chassis, billet rocker suspension, full gloss carbon bodies etc. We are also significantly cheaper than RF, around 30% cheaper for same spec parts etc.

Couldn't help myself with the plug. :)

Craig what is the status of the Pace GT, are there any in production or driving? Just planning ahead you understand :)

400TT 09-03-2013 09:52 PM

We have our first full production run of PACE GT kits in the pipeline now. So will publish photos etc soon. We are already taking orders and are already holding a lot of deposits for them.

Starting bid id now $43k less engine!
It is worth what someone else is prepared to pay.
Charlie Cash should clinch the deal and I am surprised that the ebay merchant did not accept the previous auction result.

Craig what are the best and/or the safest options colours etc you would recommend when building a Cobra for resale?
