Goodyear Billboards - I couldn't resist

I never really liked the look of raised white lettering on tyres. Sure, I tried putting the white lettering on display when I bought the 14" Bridgestone SF340 Eagers on my old Fairmont back in the 80s, but it was never really my thing.

Until now.

The Goodyear Billboards have the look that screams 60s sports racer and are a perfect addition to change them over for when I have the car at shows or at the track.

A massive thanks to another forum member - damage - for the super easy purchase.

They look awsome Craig, nothing comes close.

Towmaster 12-18-2013 05:08 AM

Craig you will be surprised at their grip levels. Bernie let me take his Kirkham for a few laps at Wakefield Park this year. I was very surprised, considering it was left hand drive... It was very easy to drive and offered loads of grip. Once the suspension and tyres had 'loaded up' I just kept pushing it harder and harder and they didn't dissapoint. I didn't get a time but John White commented that it took him longer than he anticipated to catch me...

750hp 12-18-2013 05:50 AM

Just because you can go fast with them doesn't mean I can...! :)

The offset on my front wheels has the tyre running too close to the guard, so I wasn't able to push too hard into the corners. It's immediately apparent how crap the BFGs were, because turn-in just feels so much better already.

Pin drive wheels with custom offsets would be the perfect addition now...

Awwwww now she looks complete

Those look great with the FIAs

leroy17 12-18-2013 12:01 PM

That's the money, that right there does not get any better.
I have to say that I knew this is the way that you would go..... It was just a matter of time.
Also I am surprised that the BF's stayed on that long, no offense to anyone who has them...but they really are a turd of a tyre.
I don't know much about the wheels, but places like Billeau Engineering can fix the offsets with different inner and outer rims, may be easier than you think providing you have the room on the inside.

Very cool!
Looks like she's been taking steroids...
How are you going to explain yourself when ASDA come knocking?

Ps: I'm thinking either black out the side pipes, or perhaps polish up the roll bar and it would be purrrrfect!

itempany 12-18-2013 02:09 PM

Dont know if the tyres make the car or the car makes the tyres. Maybe they just work so well together and look the part. Looking Good!

Billboards

I love the look on my Daytona, but I hate the driveability........

I hadnt driven the car for a while ( and had not rotated them ) the first

drive was terrible, I thought the front right wheel was lose........

once they warmed up it was better............the AVON CZZ6RR's are the

best 15" tyre, but dont look any where as good.

I still have a fresh set of BFGs on the Arntz and they are like racing slicks compared to the lack of traction from the rock hard old BFGs that made way for the billboards.

Thanks for the tip about Billeau. Chris Neale from Neales Wheels used to re-rim 3 piece wheels, but I think he's only working behind the scenes for Dragway now. I'm sure Billeau will have heaps of spare time to do it before Christmas...! Not really, but I'll get some really clear measurements this weekend.

The main difference between these and radials is that the sidewall is less forgiving, so it's a slightly harsher ride. Similar to running 18" wheels with a shorter sidewall.

For track day tyres, Avons are out of my short arms / long pockets reach, but there's no denying their quality.

Craig,

Love the tyres...love that look.
Ronny Ford has joined the "Billboard Club" as well...makes his car look completely different.

Here's his car....

Gary, I have a number of photos of your car saved on my computer for inspiration. At some stage in the future I would like to paint my Arntz another colour, and your colour is my current favourite. I love what you've done with the paint on your wheels too!

Wazza, I've been in touch with Ron on a number of occasions since he bought the pin drives and billboards. It's a big change going back from 18s isn't it I gave him a hard time about making the lettering paint so shiny. I've stuck with the fading, scratched paint with overspray as they are delivered. Ron's car is always shiny, so it stands to reason that he'd want to make everything look as tidy as possible.

Regarding the offsets for my front wheels, I was walking through the Queen St Mall at midnight and the spray paint artist was at work. I showed him a photo of my car to do a cartoon rendering, but said to move the front wheels in a bit. If only the fix was so cheap and easy in real life!
