I am perplexed however as to why the driver's side roll bar has a supporting brace but the passenger side does not? Also, IMHO, a classic Cobra wood-rimmed wheel would look very much at home on this car, as would a pair of windwings.

Lastly, how did it pass a RWC without sunvisors?

Hi mate, that support on the drivers side hoop is fake, it stops at the body,i didn't realize until I looked closer at it today, oh the side pipes are fake as well

I'm pretty sure the guy that did the roadworthy had no idea what he should be looking for.

I ordered sunvisers & wind wings from Snake bite yesterday

Ok, managed to take some photos, any ideas what it may be?

I got them from Vintage wheel in the Sates

Legless 02-14-2014 01:50 PM

I'll start the process of elimination: It's not a DRB

dhs.buckley 02-14-2014 02:03 PM

It looks to me like an english cobra kit, but i can't think of which one. the rear guard looks similar

Vintage can supply a polished version as well. The ones on mine are 17" (will have to take a better side photo soon)

Here's a list if some UK builders t work through, if it helps:
AK
Ayrspeed (won't be this - Mazda mx5 donor based)
Cobretti Viper
Crendon CR427
Dax Tojeiro
Gardner Douglas (289 based so not this either)
Hawk 427 (no. Cause this is really a Kirkham)
Pilgrim Sumo
Realm/Ram

guye 02-14-2014 04:08 PM

Actually, looking at the pics again the bonnet scoop is quite wide. Wider than most I've seen. The most likely UK kits would be Pilgrim, Corbretti or Dax, and the pilgrim had a narrow scoop, whereas the Dax was more like yours.

Did you say it had Jag front end? That was usual for Dax. Maybe you take it round to JBs and compare!

Of course this is assuming it is UK.

PS: you've done well if your did score a Dax! Nice cars.

Here is the factory demo Dax:

Now the bonnet is up, I would now say NOT a DRB.

It's missing some bracing and "shelf" arrangement in the engine bay. See pic

Rear guards are wrong shape for a DAX

Sly, has it got independent rear suspension or trailing arm? What about front - forged A arms or pressed steel?

I'll have to take some pictures under the rear, I can see its a jag rear end but that's all I know.

The front part of the suspension (ill take pics) what i would call the crossbember, is a weird looking curved shape if that helps anyone, note is also runs a steering box, rather than a rack.

Yeah the previous owner though it may have been a DRB but he wasn't 100% sure.

BJ's Snake 02-16-2014 01:05 PM

Sounding like a Toyota Crown based something....
Cheers

David Hodgson 02-16-2014 01:54 PM

DRB torana based front suspension used rack and pinion, so probably not that. Sounds like mine with Crown front end and jag rear. This is not a bad set up if it's done right, just gotta get past the stigma that the old crown kits earnt. The chassis rails will tell you how much of the crown was used.

It is definitely not a G-Force body. Could be an early Autostyling body. Not many kits used the wider tapper Mini headlight rims.

Whatever it is the body work appears very well finished.

looks like a DRB engine bay to me!

Are you referring to the red one or the green one?

Does your DRB 2000 have the bracing in the engine bay same as standard DRB?

dbn04 02-16-2014 11:04 PM

my bad, yes the red one didn't read the post properly,

AC427LSX 02-18-2014 06:48 AM

Ok, Ive been scouring the engine bay looking for something to help, it seems to have the original VIN number still on the chassis, it seems to be a ford front chassis it starts off 6F9AMCC0896 XXX < the rest is scrubbed out. I've searched the VIN register, seems to be Ford something.

Note, this is not the current VIN, it has that stamped on one of the frame rails.

I think you may be right though, I just googled crown front end and it looks very similar to this, here are a couple of crude photos I managed to take of the front clip.
