Nurburgring ???

Hi All

I am lucky enough to have a few days in Germany mid to late April.
I have been investigating some of the Hire companies that do race car hire for laps of the Ring

Seems to be a few and many differing options

I thought i would ask the question here and see if anyone has some first hand experience with any of the groups hiring cars or track days

I have looked at RSR Nurburg and race4rent
Both Offer a different style of package

anyone have any thoughts they would like to share?

Towmaster (Ashley Bright) will be able to help you with this.

He should jump in soon...or PM him.
Cheers,
Warren

Perhaps I'm getting too old (or lazy) to do all the hard work myself, but doing a few laps of the 'Ring with Sabine Schmitz or Vicki Butler-Henderson is still prominently on my bucket list!

The ring is over 21km long, so it takes a lot of time and practice to learn it. Rent a car and go have some fun around it but be careful. It bites fast and hard.

Do take a ride with Sabine. Itīs out of this world the stuff she does with a 4 door family car (ok itīs an M5, but still)

Mmmm a leisurely drive with Sabine in her family car.

Don't plan on reading whilst with her or sending text messages from your phone..

I used Ron Smith (RSR) as my preferred supplier. The first day I was there he was the only one there that early & asked if I wanted to come with him to take some pictures of a crash damaged part of the track. Gladly I got to cruise around outside the track walking to different vantage points etc with a legend of the 'Ring. I did 10 laps in a Renault Megane R26R but I had done approx 80 laps before I left OZ on the play station.... I did a 9:09 (bridge to gantry) & the video is on YouTube. Awesome place, just to get out early in the morning when the manufacturers are testing is awesome!

Towmaster 02-18-2014 03:34 PM

PS you aren't allowed to take regular rentals on the track. (Budget Hertz etc) they are GPS tracked apparently & they will charge you excessive amounts if you do....

I was there last September with a mate and we rented from rent4ring.

Rent4Ring | Race car rentals at the Nurburgring Nordschleife

RSR was booked out, (nor do i have as much money as Mr Bright) If you can, book in advance and get a right hooker, most rental companies have them.

Unfortunately we were there on a day that the track was only open for 1 hour, restricting us to just 2 laps, one each, sharing a little track prepped Suzuki Swift. I know don't laugh, but to be honest we had hoot, often flat to the floor but HP is not what the 'ring' is about. It really is madness, unrestricted vehicles and speed, we flew passed a Testarossa and a mad guy in a VW combi attempted to run us off the track. There were 2 prangs which unfortunately didnt close the track, but it's made quite clear that if this happens there's no refunds.

So, tick it off your bucket list and take PLENTY of $$.....a must do for any petrol head.

BTW the superbikes were practicing on the main track with free entry....you must get up in the grandstand if you can, it's bloody huge.

We did 2 laps in a X-Trail, which was our hire car, so nothing excessive.
That being said we still got up to 200kph down the straight!

What is frightening is how thin the track is, how big the curbs are, how close the armco is, how much undulation there is and how much the weather can change in 1 lap!

Towmaster 02-18-2014 06:53 PM

Lap number 10 and the fastest of my laps. Not much traffic on this laps, just a few bikes getting in the way.

It's a great lap. Nice closing speed by the 911 coming into Carousel!

Stephan427SC 02-21-2014 09:26 AM

Hi Towmaster, 9.09 ? Did you have a picnic during the lap...? LOL :-)
Ok...you raced a Renault.... ;-)

Best regards from germany
Stephan

Stephan427SC 02-21-2014 09:28 AM

Just kiddin....... ;-)

Great lap !

Towmaster 02-21-2014 04:50 PM

Yeah I know very frustrating when ur used to substantially more horsepower.... It was the most powerful RHD car I could rent, next time I'll do a couple of laps in the GT3....

Towmaster 02-21-2014 04:52 PM

I had a LHD M3 rental but unfortunately couldn't take it on the track. Luckily enough the public roads are just as good....

Trev 03-01-2014 02:08 AM

Great video. Thanks for sharing. A lot of cars flip and skid on their roofs in this - fortunately not the white VW Beetle convertible with 4 occupants!
