Need wheels to fit profile

Hi Guys

The brake setup on my DRB is a bit of a dodgy job in my opinion. It all works fine and she stops well, however I don't like the look of the rusted callipers and discs that were cut to size to make them fit the Simmons wheels that are on the car now. They also squeak on occasion when stoping which annoys me

While the wheels are Simmons and very good I prefer the traditional Halibrand type wheels with a single locknut (classic look if you like)
Something like this

Now given I have a Torana LX front end on my car I found a brake kit from Hoppers Stoppers that will be a direct bolt on kit they make for the car and that solves my brake issue, however the wheels don't clear the kit

Below are dimensions of the kit that wheels need to clear.
Its almost as if I need a deep dish type wheel.
I am not so great at this stuff and could use some help in understanding what are the dimensions of the wheel I need to fit this kit

Are there any guys on here that have had to do this before and can point me in the right direction as to where to find some classic wheels that would fit?

Picture of current wheels on the car is included

Thanks for your help

Hey Coiled, have you made a decision as to what size rims you want to run ?
It looks like you're currently running 15" rims. Going to a 17" rim allows you a good range of quality tyres & should give you clearance too.
Hope it helps.

Thanks Rog. Yes, current rims are:

Front: 6.5 x 15 (225/60/15)
Rear: 9.5 x 15 (295/50/15)

I like the look of the smaller profile rims on classic cars
You make a good point about the tire range.
The issue with my current rims is the depth, not the hight though

Shortly after I read your comment saying you needed a deep dish wheel (which would logically then impact if the wheel would actually fit), I came across a car for sale in the US. Don't go down this path!!!

Hi Coiled,

Drop Bob Lacy a line at Vintage Wheels US or his Aussie rep.

Nice gear and Bob is a great guy.

You may also need to work out how much front space is available with that brake kit on your car. ie, distance between bolt up face and wheel arch with suspension compressed - to get the correct offset without the tyres rubbing.

May be check this thread out http://www.clubcobra.com/forums/aust...ge-wheels.html

750HP - there is something seriously wrong with the owner of that car.
Krait: Thanks for the contact, I will have to give him a try
Sambo: This is exactly the sort of questions I can't answer (easily anyway). Too many things to consider: offsets, depth, height, etc ... AT the moment I am running pedders street suspension and on some big dips on the road the tires do hit the bodywork. I think its because the previous owner didn't fit the correct tire size or the shocks are too short and need another ring

I am hoping Bob can provide some guidance to get this done correctly.

Out of interest, what should I expect to pay for a set of alloys for my car through Bob?
With exchange rate being what it is, shipping costs from US, import duty and GST when it goes over $1K I am sure it will add up quick?

Is there a local place whom I can deal with and take a car to in Victoria who can take a lot of guess work out of this? Last thing I would want to deal with is some stupid mistake on my end and I have to send the whole thing back

Paul Bottomley in Thomastown is apparently the Aussie rep for Vintage Wheels according to the site. Have never dealt with him, only Bob Lacy.

Coiled, I would start with a baseline, eg, speak to another DRB owner to determine a shocker length, wheel width and offset that works. Then you can tweak from there.

PB is a great Guy, very good to talk to and knows his stuff.

There is also Team 3 wheels in the USA. Cheaper end of wheels but still very nice . They have cast lug nut covers so you have real knock ons.
