ls1 wont throttle on

started the cobra on the weekend to clean out the garage
it wont idle ,then it would
then it wouldn't run other than idle
it only back fires at full throttle then dies ,but restarts straight away
as I did change the battery out & left it out for a couple of days
so is it learning again
or has the computer gone in to limp mod

it has the standard computer for the motor or do I needed to find someone with tec 2 to check it out
any help will be great

Rob, I often disconnect my battery and it starts and runs perfectly after reconnecting.

My L98 originally ran rough and we traced it to a misfire due to a badly wired injector plug. This showed up as an error code when it was scanned. So that's where I'd be starting - check for fault codes.

Have you disconnected anything?
MAF or TPS sensor?

If not, power off the PCM and try again.
It might just be feeling unloved :)

It's coming it's coming I've been busy with crappy work.

My money is on the MAF sensor. Check the plug connection, make sure the MAF is seated properly and also clean the MAF. See if that helps.

Rob, I would probably watch Welcome to The NEW EricTheCarGuy! - Eric The Car Guy- Stay Dirty! and look at rough idle for your issues. He goes through everything step by step. Perhaps not 100% accurate but he seems very logically in his approach and at least explains things in detail i.e. "I do this because of this" at limits his opinion.

renovationinnov 04-12-2014 03:41 AM

well to day I pulled every sensor & connector off , cleaned &refitted ...found a almost broken wire at the connector cleaned out the throttle body & idle step motor
now we have idle
GAV ..cleaned all plugs with contact cleaner seams ok
PAINTWORKS cleaned the mafs with carbie / throttle body cleaner ..so tomorrow ill take it for a run up the street
PIGSEAR did clean all then watched his video it now idling
SO NOW JUST TO GIVE IT A RUN & see what happens ??????????
thanks for all the in put
ROB

damage 04-15-2014 07:19 AM

The white plume is probably hazy eyes from too much blood in your brain from standing on your head mate

Rob that's great news. The car's not yet finished and it's already going supersonic. Impressive! Pilots have nothing on you...

Craig I wish but I found that I was turning the alternator to slow [ belt slipping ] the belt tensioner stripped its thread [tucker made so new one being made
but now the alternator shows 16 amps out put then turn it off & restart & its back to 14 then 12 so alternator might have a regulator fault causing me problems going to get it tested tomorrow

just an up date ... problem solved
took the cobra to POWER TORQUE PERFORMANCE brendale to see if it was a tune problem ,, well & behold it was a maf sensor at the back of the manifold that had no power so no signal
rang the harness supplier , he explained that some harness that were done by his employees they switched the plugs on the blue side of the ecu plug 48should be in position 47 & a feed [orange ] 4amp was to be in 48 position
so we did this & found that the sensor had 12 volts to it so it was buggered & replaced
then refired up as if ti was just out of the box
now dyno tuned & maffless as well yehhaa
starts like a cobra should ,,, thanks to all .. now lane change test then rego
cant wait till Wednesday at lakeside

Rob, that is great news - its often the little things that cause these problems. (You'll luv the LS1 its a great unit) :-)

What sort of Rear Wheel KWs did you end up with? My stock unopened LS1 does 235RWKW

Cheers Gregg

renovationinnov 05-31-2014 06:02 AM

Gregg did a just abit better but not much
yep haven't driven it much yet but cant wait till Wednesday for the lane & adrive around at lakeside raceway
they did a power pull on it as well to 197km /h it did first run at 15.9 with maf & standard tune then mafless tune 13.9
this is done at idle to 197km/h as per 1/4mile run .iwas told

Modena 05-31-2014 07:25 AM

awesome stuff, get some video from Lakeside!

I don't know what meth that dyno software is using, but with 230+rwkw in a Cobra you will pull a low 12 easy and if you can get traction then elevenses!
