Not a bad street engine - coming to Brisbane

A mad mate is expecting delivery of his new street engine next week. It runs on US 91 octane fuel (our 95 octane).
Just EFI; no turbos, blower or nitrous.
1350 to 1400 horsepower
802 cubic inches
Yep, I'd say that's a pretty tough street engine!!!!!

Here's what the engine builder just sent him before crating it up and shipping it out. Not much to look at in the video, but crank up the sound to hear 800+ cubes at 7000+rpm...

Hot Rod did an article about this engine combination a few years ago. Specs like 5.7" stroke, 7.875" rod length, 1.11" valve lift and a $67000 USD price tag are just nuts! 1,400 HP Sonny's 802 EFI Street Engine - Hot Rod Magazine

Errr well, strangely Graham Kennedy springs to mind

Faarrkk !!

That engine is off its nut.
Here is the youtube movie of the HotRod boys giving a 727ci version a flogging in a Commodore.

Gav, those RoadKill videos are good for a laugh. They've built and driven some crazy cars.
Gup's commodore never seemed to show the power potential that it should have, but there could be a million reasons for that.

I just got a copy of the dyno sheet for the 802 motor. Considering that Sonnys promote the engine as a 1350hp package, they're the masters of understatement...

1458hp @ 7300
1114lb/ft

Nuts!

I love the road kill clips too.
The 'draguar' episode is a favourite :)

It's funny how things work out. I'd previously posted these details of the 1450hp street engine that was coming into Australia. My mate was looking for the right car to put it into at the time I was thinking about selling my Chev, so a deal was done today and the work begins on upgrading the Chevelle straight away. Fitting a 13.2 litre motor will bring its own unique challenges, but he's up for it. The monster motor makes my supercharged 8 litre motor look a bit asthmatic in comparison...

as we thinking of re engineing the contemporary now CRAIG

750hp 05-24-2015 01:31 AM

No Rob, the 51 year old engine in the Contemporary is still running just fine!

leroy17 05-24-2015 03:52 AM

Mmmmmmmm.

If only there was a strong chassis, big block capable project cobra that was around which would welcome such a transplant.

Where would one start to look.........

750hp 05-24-2015 03:58 AM

Good thinking Leroy, but your M22 rock crusher (as cool as it is) wouldn't handle the torque, even in a light car. What you really need is a TKO. Um hold on a minute, didn't you just...

leroy17 05-24-2015 04:08 AM

Yes.......yes I did.

I just took some measurements.

If I cut a side off a wheelie bin and turn it on the side, with a bit of trimming it should work as a scoop to cover the 8/71.

Kinda reminds me of the reverse version of another cobra with a big scoop......... Is there a link here.

750hp 05-24-2015 04:12 AM

Learn from the Roadkill guys. A bonnet is a disposable - or at least optional - accessory. If there is no bonnet, then there's nothing to say that a blower protrudes too far from said bonnet.

I rest my case, your honour.

The previous photo of the Chevelle was taken on Saturday night. It was a complete, driving car.
Here's how it looked on Sunday. The new owner isn't mucking around!

Leroy, that engine is either going into your car or its coming up the lift into my unit as an ornament in my lounge room.

leroy17 05-25-2015 04:46 AM

And right there is my dream car 25years ago. A supercharged cobra (6/71 or 8/71). And that dream still runs strong..... Stronger than an elevator cable trying to lift an engine.

leroy17 05-25-2015 04:48 AM

Will be interesting to see the 800 cube monster in the chevelle.

Keep this going with updates as it will be a landmark car.

750hp 05-27-2015 02:38 AM

Out with the supercharged motor...

This thing looks like it's about the size of a Rolls Royce Merlin motor - bloooody huge!

leroy17 05-27-2015 04:03 AM

By itself you can see the size.... But until there is a point of reference....... It's not to overwhelming.

Then, sit it in an engine bay where a big block used to be....... OMFG....... Size is everything!

Polished alloy firewall panel is gone. (Now I can see where the wiper motor was supposed to be!)

https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8863/...f2ec38_z_d.jpg

A "little bit" of the firewall and the entire transmission tunnel has disappeared. Billet steering rack is part of the conversion to right hand drive.

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7775/...a68741_z_d.jpg

If the rocker covers still sit above the bonnet height, is that a bad thing???

leroy17 05-29-2015 12:14 PM

This is going to get interesting. It appears that the new owner does not go by halves, and those minor tunnel mods will assist with fitment.

Since this is the weekend, I am sure that will be some updates.

Just a mammoth motor.

albanycobra 05-30-2015 07:16 AM

Man what a big donk he has......someone had to say it.....
