LED lighting option

I'd been looking for a while for a nice LED option to provide courtesy light to each footwell and the boot of my car.

No association other than being a buyer but I bought these off an ebay provider recently and though I'd share the opportunity.

First photo below shows the design, which I like as it allows screw attachment into quite a depth if needed. However the lights aren't a huge diameter and will sit quite flush.

The second photo was taken tonight after dark and so the lighting is just the two LEDs. Perhaps a bit bright but clearly effective.

Was thinking of having one installed on each side of each footwell as part of the trimming process. I might play around and see if just one light suits.

I do plan on two lights in the boot so that the whole boot space is lit up well. This is the sort of space where too much light isn't an issue when you are searching for something.

Anyway the ebay store is tech-advantage if the link below doesn't work. And at $9 each I thought it money well spent.

Hi Steve. These are exactly what I was after for boot and footwell/glovebox lighting. Thanks for the link. Did you purchase the cool white or warm white LEDs?

I used these on my boat had them under the sides so they shone down onto the deck and not on the water had about 8 of them 20 ft boat. they lasted for yrs before packing up . no fault of theres I don't think they really were designed for the pounding and salt environment in the boat great for a car tho and bugga all battery drain .

slowly, thanks for the tip, that style doesn't suit me but they have others that do, so thanks.

What door/boot switches are you using? I will admit I haven't spent much time looking, but I'm assuming most of them will be the type that earths onto the body as used in car alarms, something that we potentially cant do with a likely fibreglass mounting spot, so really need a switch with two electrical contacts.

No problems guys, glad this helps. Wished this sort of info was being traded when I was building as the amount of crap I rescued from old cars to try and use was all ultimately a waste of time and money.

Anyway George they are cool white light I believe, so a white - blue colur tinge over the yellowish warm white look.

Good to hear they have quite a life to them and yes low battery drain was another desired outcome.

Ben on switching I am going to replicate what I first set up and that was trigger switches attached to holding mounts and bolted onto the steel frame. I set up the mounts for the doors and boot so that as the door or boot was closed, the hinge would strike and trigger the switch to turn off-on the light depenedant on closure or opening.

Again used a range of crappy door switches I rescued and have now bought simple Cole Hersee trigger switches. Titled door switch normally closed part #9251BL.

A simple straight barrel switch with a push plug attachment to attach the live so as you depress the trigger plunger it breaks the circuit to turn off the light. Of course this assumes earthing to the frame. Has a threaded section behind the head so that the switch can be screw mounted as needed.

In the boot my sparky had set up both a live and earth to the boot hinge assembly as this is hung between the fibreglass panels but that's no big deal.
