Fast ez efi
Hi guys
Is anyone using one of these or similar EFI kits and if they comply with our ADR's. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...b213ef9c6a.jpg Cheers |
I have been looking at the MSD efi kit also. It seems to have less wiring to connect and links the distributor easily. Don't know about complying with ADR's though on new build.
|
I would predict that they will not meet emissions. When I built mine we had to use the factory computer with all the factory EFI components.
If I used a aftermarket computer I would have needed to go through emission lab testing to see if it would pass. That was in Vic. Best thing is to ask your engineer. |

That's what I am thinking as the car has been registered on LPG for nearly 10 years so it would be a matter of emission testing and change of records with the RTA. I believe the EFI system is programmable to what ever you need. I would talk to an engineer but there are no such things in this neck of the woods that you would give the time of day to. Cheers |
Hi BJ
I've had one of the older EZ-EFI systems on by cobra for a couple of years now and it has been good I've had little to no problems with it. I followed the instruction when installing it to the letter and when finished it started first go and idled straight up. I did fiddle with the air fuel ratios a bit but was nothing. The only thing that has gone wrong was a sensor stuffed up I rang FAST up and they let be know of part and as it turned out it was the same part as off a V6 commodore which fitted straight up plug and all. As to do with the ADR I cannot comment but for me the system has been good I hope this has helped. :) |
Welcome to the forum Dog Chops.
What engine did you add the FAST EZ Fuel to, and where did you purchase the FAST EZ Fuel? More details on your Cobra?....and pictures? Cheers, Glen ps Interesting name |
Thanks for that and welcome Dog Chops....! Yes interesting name tag.
From what I can tell, they are just a condensed version of a Manifold EFI system so with cats fitted it should work as long as the emissions comply. And they fit straight onto a 4150 Holley baseplate. Cheers |
last time I looked only OEM factory EFI was legal unless extensive testing was done. I could be wrong though
|
Hi Glen
EZ EFI I brought was straight out of the Summit catalog, it bolted to a 4150 Holly base plate and on to my Cleveland and the cost from memory was $2100 to my door. There is a quite a lot of wire coming from the throttle body but it's all black and with a few cable ties it comes up quite neat and the whole thing to put together was straight forward even for someone with little mechanical knowledge. . |
Hello Rob,
I am aware of 2 Fast EFI quad throttle body set ups on ICVs that have been registered and passed IM240 reqs in Melbourne here, 1 with VZ cats, 1 with Ford units. also 1 being built with 347 ford motor at the moment. I also know of several Wolf EMS units with EFI hardware throttle bodies that are also compliant. I have asked my engineer for my car, (some time ago), i only need to meet the IM240, If your in doubt, talk to your engineer for first hand info. Dave Dave |
Dave, that's encouraging re two cars passing the IM240 with this system - what engines were they? Do you know whether they went on a gas analyser first or did they pass straight out of the box?
|
Once you actually get a FAST computer that works the tuning is so simple its not funny.
|
Sambo,
Hemi SRT 392 in a newly registered FF 33 Rod, soon to be in Street Machine mag, and an LS1 dual quad Fast XFI in a re-engineered Camaro 347 is going in a CR in Vic. I dont know the details of testing, but i will find out as i work with the Rod owner. I believe the tuner is Rob Sabbadin in Mulgrave, I can confirm this as well. Dave |
Sounding promising. Be interested to hear if any NSW cars are using this
type of system. Thanks lads for the input. Cheers |
Sorry if i miss lead anyone here, the FAST EFI units i was referring to are the XFI systems, not the EZ EFI.
I dont know if the EZ units are tunable. My apologies. Dave |
No worries Dave. Rob Sabbadin is good to know about for EFI and tuning, right around the corner from me.
|
If you're in NSW you can fit what you want as long as you pass IM240. If it's tuned correctly and you have OEM cats from a similar engine to what you have fitted then you can be confident. Remember NSW only requires ICVs to meet ADR 37/01 emissions levels - so 1997 levels. Fairly straightforward - if I can get a 1969 rover v8 through it with EFI and cats then I'm sure you can get this setup through.

Thanks
Treeve
Thanks for that, just what I needed to know. :) Cheers |
I have been looking at these systems for a while now. The big issue is your camshaft. If you have a radical cam that makes little vacuum at idle, then you do not want to go EFI. If your cam pulls at least 10 psi at idle, then you're Ok.
