Hello Harrison owners,


Has anyone fitted a front sway bar to their Harrison Cobra?

Peter Hancock has just made a custom one for Wazza's old red racer. I am not sure what they do for them. Have a chat to John White at the Nationals, I am pretty sure he had one on his Turbo Lexus Harrison. (assuming u will be there?)

No sway bar on my Harrison but I'm taking it up to Scotty at Venom before the Nationals for a suspension tune up.

Funny I was going to ask him about a sway bar.

He had a lot to do with the early cars (mines a double A arm) might be worth a call for you.

Default Sway Bars

Guys,

Thanks for the reply's, mine is the Dunnydore A arm model (2007 chassis).

As it comes standard with the rear R32/33 assembly which already has a bar

attached it might be worth while adding a front.

I am going to the Nats so I will have a chat to Sneeky Mr White and

Hancock and Co. Is Wazza's old car quicker without him in it or has the front

bar made a difference........

Stiff, when my chassis was being built I asked Warwick about the rear bar, I'm using an R33 rear end and Warwick said NOT to use it. If I remember correctly he said it made them a tailey.
I still have it, thought I might need it one day-( if I ever get it finished )

What problem are you trying to solve Stiff? I had negligible body roll at Winton with fairly conservative spring rates. Roll bars front or rear are for dealing with over or understeer as far as I understand.

I wish Warwick had of told me that maybe he didnt as we were in the

same class AND I was a tad quicker.........


SAMBO,

The majority of cars have at least a front sway bar, it must be there for

a reason, having a rear ONLY must cause issues. Maybe I should just remove the

rear and see if that works.

I know mine is not a Harrison, but it suffered shocking understeer prior to the front swaybar being fitted.
The rear bar stopped it lifting inside front wheels :0

And oil surge stopped it dead

whats the car doing ? we change sway bars all the time on our commy race cars on dirt even between races depending on the what the track is doing . my prefrance is soft springs and sway bars to support the car thru the corners where other blokes prefer stiffly sprung cars with no swaybars . my view is if you are going to run sway bars then you need them both ends of the car . the tricky bit is working out what rate you need .

No sway bars on mine Stiffy. It feels pretty neutral too. I didn't have the balls at Winton to push hard into corners so I can't really say how it would behave - I just assumed it would go bad very quickly - and I had to consider the drive back to Melbourne.

Thinking more about that scenario... I'd probably want a bit of understeer. Lift off the throttle and hopefully the nose tucks in nicely.

What are your spring rates front/rear?

SAMBO,

From memory the fronts are 450, the rears 250/275. My car is quite

Neutral at lower speeds and predictable at speed with under and over steer.

When I look at photo's of my car going thru corners, it leans more than other

Cars thru the same corners and at about the same speed. Therefore it would

Appear that one is needed, but where to fit is the issue, it's pretty FULL under

The bonnet.

Stiffy, I reckon you need to do some back to back testing with and without the rear bar fitted. Maybe a slalom where you can weave through witches hats at increasing speeds to see what feels better. Personally I think some of the best Cobra photos are where there is a bit of body roll... full attack!

Sambo,
Your car performed really well at the Shelbyfest, but I am sure once you get some stickier rubber under it you will be wanting more from the car.
A front sway bar is a must if you are wanting to have a crack and IMHO a rear one is definitely worth having too.

Thanks Gav. I was originally surprised that Harrisons are not fitted with sway bars by default.

Can we hear from a few other Harrison owners? How about those faster drivers in QLD?

Gav,

I agree, all track cars should have at least a front bar, and as the

Harrison has a rear bar as standard the front is a no brainer.

Space is the only issue, especially in the Daytona as they are a bit longer and

wider than the Cobra chassis and with the inner guards incorporated in the bonet.

I will take a squiz at the Cobra Harrisons to see how they did their's.

The rear bar comes as part of the Nissan rear asembly, it should

be the same as yours.

Ok yeah I remember leaving it off mine. A light bar front and rear makes sense.

Gents

No rear or front bar on mine. I asked Warwick at the time and he said get rid of the bar from the R32 rear end and there was no need for a front bar. Here is the extent of the body roll going around the final turn at Morgan Park.



After a session at Morgan Park at the recent club day and some discussion with Towmaster, I have considered a front bar to reduce some oversteer. It is not much but a front bar could help.
