Default Is there anybody out there?

Pretty quiet on here at the moment.

I have the day off tomorrow, going to paint my heat shields with high-temp paint and do a smattering of other jobs getting ready for engine install.

Hey Ben. Heat shields are one of my next jobs. Getting ready to move house on Friday and over the xmas break the driveline comes out and I'm finishing off underneath.

Any reason why you didn't go with mirror stainless heat shields? Sure beats painting.

Thats right Guye I think it was your kit I was helping helping get together at Pace on Monday.

I cant believe all the parts that are supplied in the kit.

I must have used all of them in my car because its registered now.

Its an amazing feeling driving a Cobra that you have built and assembled yourself.

Hang in there Guy the fun begins very soon

Cheers

Aluminium will reflect the heat better, and I didn't want shiny bling in there anyway.

Really? I would have thought aluminium would absorb heat better, and then dissipate it quicker, but not reflect it.

But I'm a computer nerd, so what would I know.

When it comes to radiated heat (which is what we're dealing with, not conductive) aluminium is better than steel.

I reckon I'll build some heat shields like yours Ben. I agree on aluminium as a better material. Aluminium conducts heat better, It heats up quickly but dissipates that heat just as quickly. Stainless retains heat. That's one of the reason it's so often used for cookware

You Pace blokes need to get your build threads happening with these cars turning up soon. We want to see progress pics.

I'm sorting out the bolts to hold the body down at the moment. Going with stainless for everything (better corrosion resistance). Also stepping up to 12mm from 10mm to make up for the difference in strength.

Making plates for in the boot where the quick jacks attach. Lots of little jobs to do.

Cheers

My Pace build thread should fire up early next year.
The workshop is almost ready for delivery.
The floor is getting painted tomorrow and hopefully my Builder can knock up a wall next week.

I'm here, but have been really busy with work, with everyone wanting things done before Christmas. Haven't had any spare time for my car, but I did assemble the engine mounts! And I bought a cabin heater too!

Sounds like everyone has plenty to do over Xmas. I'm in the process of pulling my engine ready for a new one. It will be a good opportunity to clean up the engine bay.... and all the oil that spat all over the undercarriage when it blew its guts out. I'm still trying to source some heat/sound shield for the firewall to replace my existing stuff. Local shops don't seem to carry anything. I can get just soundproofing but need the heat shield. Any local suppliers you guys use?

That's right -- another Keith Craft engine lunching itself.

Have you talked to Damage to compare notes?

No Don I haven't spoken to Damage, the Keith Craft engine is the new one, not the blown one. Its on its way over. In my excitement I have prematurely changed my profile to reflect the new engine. I have had some issues with KC but hopefully all goes well when we start her up.
