Lumley Insurance not doing Cobras

Update for those interested. Just looking at laid up cover for my build, and tried our Vic sponsor Lumley, however they are currently declining to insure ANY kits currently, laid up or otherwise. Certainly narrows your choices!

Modena 12-29-2014 02:09 AM

My Cobra is insured with them, they call it "storage and restoration" insurance. Has been insured with Lumley since it arrived just over three years ago, and I renewed about 3 months ago. Did they give you a reason?

guye 12-29-2014 02:17 AM

I said my fellow club members were with Lumleys, but he confirmed that "they currently are not taking new policies for any kit cars". He asked me which club but I declined 'cause I said I didn't want him to withdraw their sponsorship :D: - he laughed.

I hadn't even told him what the kit was - apparently it's a blanket thing.

That's seems a bit odd, I just picked up another cobra this month and they had no issue setting up a policy for me.

Or try them again... See if you get a different story. %/
Seems odd.

Ill see if I can sort this out tomorrow !!

I've only JUST got everything set up with them last week ??!!...so I don't know what's going on.

The newly registered one at the shop was given FULL Comprehensive cover a day or so before Xmas...and we sent a mountain of info for Lumleys to keep on file....sound odd !!??

My Cobras have been with them for many years...and I've received nothing to indicate any issues.

I'll let you know a.s.a.p.

Cheers,

Warren Boylan,
Absolute Pace.

Laid up with Shannons, $120 p/yr for $30K

Wazza 12-29-2014 07:18 PM

Phoned Lumleys this morning.

Misunderstanding by the chap sitting in the State managers chair, whilst Patricia de la Paz is on leave.

Spoke to him this morning, gave him a clear understanding of what the Cobra replica is...( i.e. not some backyard go kart/beach buggy)
and he has apologised for any problems caused.

All o.k. for Cobras/GT40 cover...laid up, and full comp.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,
Warren.

You didn't happen to record this bit by any chance did you Waz??? :D

I had used Lumleys for years and made no claims or had any trouble. When I sold my car over a year ago the new owner wanted to "roll over" the insurance, but they would not allow it do to changes to their lending rules!!

I now use Ryno.

Cheers,

Ben

Thanks Wazza, thanks for advice everyone. I'll try again tomorrow. Cheers!

guye 01-02-2015 04:05 PM

Ok, so got onto Lumleys, and they did offer to cover my Pace Cobra, thanks Wazza. Still reading through the fine print, however one rather large and silly exclusion is that they will only cover the build for things actually attached to the chassis! I mean, it's is laid up because most things are not attached to the chassis yet! Then it also says spare parts not attached will be covered. Mmmm.

Oh, and I've also got onto Ryno Insurance to see what they're about too. And Shannon's.

Will keep you posted.

Modena 01-02-2015 04:08 PM

Things not attached to the car will be covered by your house contents insurance, just make sure you have enough coverage for that, and watch the value limits on single items for things like engine.

Auswallaby 10-17-2015 05:18 AM

I'm about to sort out my insurance. How did you go with Lumleys?

Beejay 10-17-2015 05:21 AM

Call Shannons mate.

Lumleys are shafting us these days.

Ben

Wazza 10-17-2015 08:04 AM

News to me ?!?!
Check with both....do you get the salvage rights to any write off...
My understanding is that Shannon's don't and Lumleys do....HUGE difference in the case of a crashed car.
This is the first I've heard that Lumleys weren't looking after us?!
Any specifics?
Warren

Aussie Mike 10-17-2015 08:06 AM

I was with Lumley for a while but switched back to Shannons. Yes they are a bit more expensive but you probably get what you pay for. Shannons have been a very long time supporter of the car community so I recon they deserve our support.

Aussie Mike 10-17-2015 08:08 AM

I believe I have salvage rights but il double check.
