CSX2127 -- reborn.

A wonderful story about one of the most famous of Cobras being rescued from a collector and returned to its rightful place on the racetrack.

It's a beautiful car, but depending on the occasion it might be the original car or it might be a Kirkham. Hopefully the ownership of both remains with the one owner, or things could get awkward...

Except for the rear looks like a 55 gal drum hanging on the side.

From the article:

"The car was driven in period by Carroll Shelby himself, 1961 F1 World Champion Phil Hill, Dan Gurney, Ken Miles, Bob Holbert and a number of prominent racers. The car usually placed in the top four in its first year of racing..."

Behind what I wonder?

As with all these race cars there is a story.
Wrecked, repaired, repainted, restored to it original spec.
In the end the story is a good as the writer.

Nice car.
Lots of story.

Guys .... I noticed in the article that the car had been owned by someone here in South Carolina . Does anyone happen to know who that was ? Reason I ask is a late friend of mine had a shop not far from me with over a dozen vintage cars , and still had CSX 3114 when he died . I remember talking to the guys at the shop and they said he had sold another CSX to a collector in France some years ago . I think it was a car driven by Hal Keck , which would make it a 427 car and this is a 289 car ??

Thanks

BTW , His Penske/Donahue Lola went to a collector in Greece ..... hope he raced it as Dale did every now and then . CSX 3114 is still here in the area .

Keck drove this 289... and, yes, Dale sold it to the Frenchman.

When he found out that I was French he refused to even allow me in the workshop!’

Ludovic found himself a hotel and did some thinking. He reminded himself that his priority was to secure the Cobra – even if it meant embellishing the truth somewhat – and ‘phoned the vendor again. ‘I did my best to assure him that I personally supported America’s position about Iraq and that I had no time for [then-French President] Jacques Chirac! He still seemed wary of me, but two days later we had a deal… ‘

Best part of the story.

Thanks Ron ..... I still have some of the history on that car that the guys put together for the Frenchman somewhere ... and I do remember them telling me how they spent several days here trying to get Dale to sell the car to them . FWIW , a friend of mine was friends with the Kecks and also was on the crew for Hal . He still has a lot of info and photos on most of Hal`s cars .
