New toy for a Mamil
And now for something completely different............. as the saying goes!
Another component of my refinancing purchase list was to obtain a road bike frame in a size more suited to my dwarfish stature.
With the lolly finally in the bank I've taken possession of a frame I've had on hold since October last year - a 2013 Pinarello Paris.
This is a size 50 frame compared to the size 54 I have been riding.
And being a 2013 new old stock model, it has dawned on me that the signature graphics are of the the now deceased founder.
"Dead man riding...." - hope that doesn't translate to the new owner.
The recent cobra related thread I saw with engine size comparisons got me thinking and the following shots denote how much smaller this size 50 frame really is compared to the 54 FP7.
Centred the frame on the crank and rear wheel spigot as a datum and was pretty surprised - as follows.
Rear stay variance
Steerer variance
Frame and steerer changes view
After gear is swapped over I'll get a proper fit up and see how the new model goes.

Well done. Some mad mates of mine manage to clock up 60 or 80 km before they go to work. I'd join them if I could still tie it in with my interest in Motorcycles. Maybe this would be suitable - the very first Ducati engine.

Nice. Very nice. That's a sweet pick up!
Having ridden one before IM going to suggest You're gonna love it!!!
Very quick and stable frame solid as a rock in the rear triangle.
Makes for good climbing and good sprinting.
I'm particularly please it looks like you got the mechanical version and not the di2 specific frameset. 
Di2 is a complicated solution to a problem that never existed.

I remember being wowed by that frame when it first came out... And then floored by the price tag. Yikes! I trust you got yourself a good deal.
She's gonna look pretty sweet built up. All white with campy gear and all black carbon wheels.

Have to admit I'd have gone for another colour option if I'd had the choice but it was the last of two in the size I needed both as white.
As 2013 stock the sales receipt suggested I'd saved $1600 off RRP and compared to the 2015 equivalent it is nearly $2000 less so beggars couldn't be choosers.
The plan is to swap all the sram red and other gear off the current ride with perhaps a fresh rear cassette, new bar tape with perhaps a bit of yellow and black Tiges colour flavour and a fit up and I'll be good to go.
All happening next week so first ride will be Saturday week with luck.
And yes it is a mechanical frame and I wouldn't have gone electric anyway.
I expect the frame wont be too far off the FP7 as it had a 46 frame rating and the Paris is only 50, so don't expect too much change in this regard.
It will be the size difference between the frames that will have the greatest effect I am sure.
Will post after shots when done.

Well..................I have to say I NEVER expected to see discussion re push bikes on a Forum dedicated to thundering V8's and who can lay down the largest carbon foot print possible !!
Ive spent the last 30 years belting through the Adelaide Hills on various motor bikes, Clubman's (and a soon to be constructed Pace Cobra) abusing the Lycra Loonies.................
That was up until early last year when I purchased my first decent (aluminium framed) bike and now Im (nearly) proud to be outed as one of the Lycra Loonies AKA Mamils and I now spend my Saturday mornings riding the pushy thru the Adelaide Hills.
Sunday's are dedicated to the Motor Bike or Clubman so I most definitely have a foot in both camps.
Ive now decided to take the plunge and upgrade the old bike to something a little more special (with a budget of around $5000.00)
I guess its a little like Cobra's in that all bikes are different and its a case of "horses for courses" but my question is................what should I look for in a bike...........I generally ride a couple of times a week and ride anywhere from 40km along the beach roads to around 80km thru the Hills.
Am I better off getting a new bike for $5K or finding something that's a year or so old and was worth 10K new and now being flogged off for around the
$5K mark.
Any pointers/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Ha ha ha ha love the comments and yes who would have expected but it is clear there are a few here on the forum that do ride.
Maybe not as lycra wearing loonies and certainly in my case without a single follicle shaved, waxed or otherwise maligned but for me a good outing with mates generally and to support a healthy lifestyle.
I started after snapping an Achilles, wished I'd found the sport so much earlier but so be it, however with only about three years under the belt, the following commentary on options is naturally just my thoughts.
The value of buying new is that through a reputable shop you should be able to test ride sufficiently to ensure you get a good pick for your ride. Downside is it will cost more but you will be able to specify to suit your expected use option.
The red-white-blue Pino FP7 in the shots above was got for $3K with a replacement value put at about $7-8K, my lucky timing to an extent except the frame is too big, hence the new one. But again the white Pino is 2013 stock with the savings as I've mentioned above.
If you can get a good second hand bike at depreciated value but with a known history, that would be my suggestion. It's knowing the history that is the issue and you may have to compromise on running gear that will cater for flats and hills. I took the punt on the FP7 and was lucky the frame was in good order and the gearing acceptable to my uses.
Not really knowing what makes a good hill climber, sprinter or flat road bike I'll leave it to other more knowledgeable heads to comment further.

be good to see another pace cobra here in sa if this keeps up we may be able to bounce ideas off each other and see how each other has chosen too do thing .
the last bike I road had a banana seat and high rise handlebars and a 3 speed stick shift .:-) but im showing my age now

Eldo, how tall and flexible are you?
Most any bike can be used to do the things you've described, but certain one will do it better than others.
Value for money, it's hard to go past giants tcr series or propel series.
But if you want to cause a stir you could always do what slowy's doing and put Sram Red on a pinarello. It's kind of like putting a Chevy in a cobra. Lol

twas a nice night for a ride tonight, noisy head-wind down Nepean and nice tail wind back up Beach Rd
Here is my machine, Cervelo Soloist with Ultegra. I've had it for 7 years, wasn't middle-aged then but I guess I am now!

Thought I would make my first post with something I am familiar with  I'm current looking at maybe getting an FFR and reading all I can on FFRcars and here. But with biking here is my daily driver of 38 years. I have averaged about 40 miles a week on that stalwart piece of Italian gear which puts the odometer at about 79000 miles. It's all original except for seat, handlebar wraps and toe clips (Bianchi Limited SL). Note my new matching celeste green kraut helmet, oh yeah I get the looks when I'm on the road I think I paid about $730 for my bike back in '77 and then it was considered a pretty damn good bike. Today it's insane what the exotics go for, my local bike shop is carrying something that goes for $13,000 and there are even more expensive bikes out there. What's the longest 1 day trek you have done, mine is 150 miles in just over 13 hours, I was a cripple for 5 days after that one. Excuse the poor quality photo, it's the best I could do.

That'll be a steel frame and all I'm sure, well done.
There is quite a growing legion of riders of vintage bikes - lol but I think they do also own something a tad more current too.
Really aside from weight and perhaps operational functionality of some of your bike parts what is the difference? - you pedal hard you go fast - you pedal slow you go slow.

I see my pic made it, sorry for the double. Yes, columbus steel frame and I think Bianchi went with something different after '77. Shimano Ultegra 600 series components, never failed me in all these years. I'm a sucker for some of the iconic vintage stuff, I guess that includes cars too!
