This was bound to happen with some of the cars you see on club plates !! |
I know a bloke here in sa with a ford hot rod of some sort with a big blower that's almost as high as the roof it has vic plates and on vic club rego he has a brother or relative over there where the car is supposed to be garaged at .he brags about how he has gotton around the system so he can drive it .
I reckon he will be in for a bit of as shock soon . ive been for a spin in it and tbh its a death trap its over 500 cubes with the blower and some sort of mechanical injection puts out close to 800 hp ive been told it steers and stops like a pig I think this one will just end up as either a show and drag car. anything to get it off the road would be good . |
Its ridiculous.
I saw a guy here driving a crappy old rusty corolla on club plates. Obviously too tight to fix the car or pay rego. Those idiots and the clubs that let them screw things up for the people who have no other options !! :mad: |
I saw a Mitsubishi Express Van on Club Plates........Really!
Plus go to any car show these days and you will see plenty of highly mod. cars on club rego. |

Look like common sense changes. Nothing there to concern the genuine enthusiasts with legit cars.

The Vic plates thing falls over if the vehicle is normally garaged outside of victoria for more than 3 months - then it is consider to be (for example) a NSW vehicle. If it is still on vic plates after the 3 months then it is effectively unregistered.
It'll all end in tears once it gets to an insurance type event and he finds he's unregistered, uninsured and driving a non-compliant vehicle... |
I think it is only a good thing that this is happening.
I have seen some real shockers on the road in Vic. The interstate thing you are meant to write a letter to your club a minimum of one month prior to travel, The club then advises your states/Territories authorities and they notify the State/Territory you are traveling to. (At least this is how it works in NT) When I see things like a beaten up Mazda 323 or Ford Laser on club plates, I really wonder why any club would allow this to happen. |

You have to fill out a log book every time you use the vehicle so I would assume they could check that. I've heard of a couple of guys getting booked for forgetting to fill out the log book. The fine is hefty at about $900 from memory.

You don't... it's in the 'normally garaged' part of the statement. If they have proof (such as you having a nsw license, or a job and place of residence in this state even though you have a vic license, then you are normally in this state. In fact, in the above paragraph if you're on an interstate license for more than 3 months you're then considered not licensed too, so it just gets worse. They have ways of proving this kind of stuff - not all govt departments are as slow as you may think! |
I drove in NSW for over 5 years on my WA plates and DL.
Had an idiot in a Camry hit me one night and insurance was no problems. The best was in Canberra where the blue private WA plates look like diplomatic plates in ACT so never got pulled up and waved through RBT's... |

Wait until someone dies and it goes to a Coroner's court and you'll find out that they treat things a little bit differently. |
When the system was first rolled out in NT, It was made pretty clearly that if one club has 3 breaches of any rule. Then that entire club will lose the plate scheme.
That includes not filling out log books etc. We recently had our "first strike" as 2 members went to an interstate car event without advising club first. Those members have had plates removed and not being reissued through Aces & Eights club. |

Just because it has plates does not mean that it is registered. In Vic when you buy a personalised plate you can keep it in the cupboard if you want. I think there's some law where if it's not on a car in so many years VicRoads have the right to take it back or something, not sure on that one.

I had my plates in the cupboard for six years before rego. It's **** boxes like these that give grief to people who just want to have a nice relaxing drive in there pride and joy.
