Cordless 1/2 inch impact wrench/driver - educate me
I am looking for thoughts, suggestions, recomendations for a 1/2 inch drive cordless (18v +) inpact wrench/driver.
This will mainly be used for automotive which will then be sufficient for other duties around the home. My current tools are either DeWalt or Bosch Blue and I have had no issues with these at all. Thanks in advance for your input. |
I have all Makita 18v LiOn tools, including cordless 1/2 impact gun.
It is great, although I would be careful not to drop it, as I think it could be a bit delicate. I bought a stack of them a few years ago (range of tools) and the largest capacity battery. I found cheapest supplier to be Sydney Tools. As always though, dont trust the gun to tighten bolts tight enough, always check with a breaker bar. |
As always though, don't trust the gun or a breaker bar to tighten bolts tight enough, always tighten critical bolts with a high quality, calibrated, torque wrench.

I love my Milwaukee 18v Fuel impact driver. Its compact but has plenty of power. I have the big dewalt one which has more grunt but find the Milwaukee does the job every time.
|
I have Makita tools and have never had an issue with them.
That being said I think if you go with any main stream brand you will be OK. |

I just bought a Milwaukee 18V Fuel battery hammer drill driver on the weekend. Very impressed with the quality and power of this thing. They run a brushless motor and is beautiful smooth and powerful. Amazingly compact for the power of the thing too. Cheers |
I recently bought a DeWalt 18v wrench. Supposed to produce about 300 ft/lbs, but I don't think it really does. Works well for just about everything, though. Small, light weight, and easy to handle.

Dewalt 18V 1 2" Cordless Impact Wrench DW059 Battery Charger | eBay

Thanks guys,
At work now and I can only access certain sites... ebay is not one of them unfortunatly. So Dean I will check this at home. I see so many places selling the 'skins' no battery and no charger. I know that some were import and a client of mine said it not worries, just get the AUS charger and battery. Also the Milwaukee Fuel was on my list, I forgot to mention before as I read a review and was very positive. |
Total tools had all the Milwaukee stuff on sale for the last couple of days. They sell the skins too. The idea is guys like me that have bought a drill driver kit with spare batteries and charger can just buy the bare tool and use our existing batteries. I reckon this is a great idea. The 1/2" impact wrench is on the shopping list for the future.
There are pluses and minuses to the scheme in that you are locked into one manufacturer but they do seem to have a big range for the system and the quality is top notch. Cheers |
Here is where I buy all mine.

Sydney tools, total tools and get tools direct always have specials running and are the cheapest around. I got mine from get tools direct. They are located in Queensland and would recommend them.

You're all crazy. I don't use impact tools on my cars. And FFS don't use them on wheel nuts!! Ask stiffy why.
they have their place as tools, but general use (suspension etc) and wheels are NOT The right place for impact tools. |
I have Milwaukee brushless impact driver / drill and impact wrench........New technology and pretty good value for the money.
