Default Clutch Help

Well i put a big motor in my 40 and now my clutch is not up to the job. Slips bad.

I run an Audi 5000 clutch plate and pressure plate. Does anyone know of a company that can reline my clutch plate with a ceramic material and maybe upgrade the pressure plate clamping force?

Cheers
Dave

Cool

Race Clutch -- Jim Berry 07 3847 9999
You're a bit limited with clutch options for that set up unless you want to reengineer things to suit a multi disc clutch pak such as Quarter Master , Tilton etc
Probly a good thing that it slips, as this will help save that trans

Ha just rang old Jim......He's not real happy with my combo...lol. Wont touch it. Apart from that he is retiring end of month.

I was hoping to just get my clutch plate relined in ceramic or similar for my bite but Australian clutch service tell me I need a new pressure plate to take the loading....sigh.

Dave, I had these guys do some custom work on my clutch and so far it seems to be going really well.

Clutches - International supplier clutch kits, clutch parts, clutch plates, clutch cylinder

The Audi box is going to be your fuse as Chris suggests. My mate Rossco Miller in Vic has a RF GT40 and he's broken more boxes than I've had hot breakfasts. His clutch is still going strong though!!!

I think the Porsche G50 Trans (?) is the go for boxes in 40's isn't it.

If you dont want to have gearbox troubles again.
Try this mob (not cheap)

6speed sequential shift sounds good.

Albins and Holinger for trans axles are an excellent high end option for mid engine applications - But the best value is the Porsche G50 or 930 trans axle. The 930 is 4 speed with heaps of ratios available while the G50 + is 5 speed also with plenty options incl. LSD etc all good for 600hp easy.
These trans adapt to any motor with ease and simplicity
Why any one would spend a poultice on highly spirited power plant and expect a low rated trans to cope with it --confounds me !

I run a turbo 944 transaxle ,it's kinda the big brother to the 016. A Mate runs this same trans in his DRB and has had no problems with 8 years of only racing miles. Infact I would say no other kit car in Oz would of completed more events than this car. My problem is clutch slip, now my Mate has the same clutch and no slip so I'm thinking I have a bung pressure plate. I have found someone to test and remake clutch plate if required. I also have a 6 Spd 01E trans which I think I will fit as they can take plenty of power without the Porsche cost. The other issue with Porsche G50 trans swap is the adapter kit. Another friend over here is building a DRB and has a g50 /LS1 and he has had nothing but trouble with the junk adapter kit he was supplied. Starter motor grinds and clutch was dodgy so don't really want the hassle of that.

Southbendclutch.com do some strong Audi clutches. I don't know if they have what you need but worth a try

The 01E 6spd conversion came with a South bend clutch kit . It has a half ceramic / organic surfaces. Looks to be nice stuff. The 01E has much shorter ratios than the 944 box I have.

Was thinking of contacting them but was hoping someone in Oz would be the go. Direct clutch are interested in the 944 clutch so will send it to them.
