Aahh Grasshopper (AKA Guye)
When you know the reply to finish the mantra 1-3-7-2 When you know that single rail does not refer to playground equipment When you know that a top loader is not a woman with big breasts or just a reference to a washing machine or good worker When you know why a BW40 is prefered to a BW35 When you know what a T10 or FMX is When you know that after X, L comes before F When you know that Carroll Shelby fitted a C4 behind Henry's bent 8 into an AC Ace creating another Cobra When all of these things have come to pass grasshopper, then you will be on the road to enlightenment. and then you will see the natural order of things in the universe, your world will expand, and the knowledge you seek regarding the C6 will come to you, as if in a dream. Travel well Grasshopper, for there is more to life than a bow tie playing lip service (LS) to the humble Cobra. Om (insert appropriate mantra here, eg. 1372 6548 1372 6548 etc). Dave |

The boxes in the 2000-2006 Brazilian built F250's were labelled S5-420 but they don't share the same ratios as the American built S5-420's which, incidentally, were used between 1987-1995. After that, as you know, they upgraded to the S5-47. The ratios in the Australian delivered boxes are the same as the S5-47 ratios and although the steel cast boxes were labelled S5-42 they were in fact using the later model gears? The number count on the gears match up but I can't confirm they are exactly the same. Any of the American parts suppliers steer clear of the subject because they have no records or part numbers to go by. I have ordered a reverse gear, 5th and reverse shift fork and slider and a full bearing synchro kit and apparently they fit. Spoke to my gearbox guy yesterday and he said yep they will be fine. Even with our pathetic dollar it was $750 delivered which is better than an F Truck supplier ($2,000) and FORD ($3,500) for the same stuff. I will get the 5th gear that I need so it should be ready sometime this week...... The gearbox guy said I would never break that gearbox.... mine just wore out.... And of course I can't source any performance stuff for the 6 cylinder motor because it wasn't offered for sale in North America...... I have seen YouTube videos of those motors making 1,000hp....... |

Got the gearbox back today along with a front passenger brake line. Hopefully sometime next week I will get an opportunity to put it back in.
I put one of the F250 wheels alongside the Cobra front wheel (235/45/17), these suckers are tall enough... And these are the legal ones! |

And the tray is goooone! Guy turned up with a truck trailer and excavator, picked it up, paid the cash and he was gone!
|
At least he bought the goods to load and carry, and it was not some numnuts with box trailer behind an XF
|
Surely you mean a VN commidore

Parked the Rodeo next to the F250 today... Didn't realize quite how much bigger it is.

Just a bit of an update today... Got all the trailer wiring sorted today, electric brakes and Anderson plug all sorted. After rego I'll do the wiring for the cameras. Got the chassis painted black today, new style side back goes on tomorrow. Then it will look a bit more complete. By my calculations I think I wil need a 200mm drop batman Reese hitch receiver... I don't even know if they make them that long???

I can only seem to attach one photo at a time from my iPhone

Great stuff Ash.
Did you get the gearbox all sorted and installed? Cheers |

Yes Mike I got it all sorted, ended up costing about $2600.
Some more pics, tray is on & wiring done. |
The wheel pic next to your cobra gave an idea ow big it is, then next to the rodeo it just is huge, but these above shots.... Wow, that is a road monster. Look at the size of the rear wheel arches, more like an amphitheatre.
Go pimpin style and throw some 30 inch wheels and tyres on it. Great tow rig, good on you for getting stuck in and getting it done. |

My new towing mirrors arrived today so I installed them, even bigger than the Chevy ones on the Rodeo! Still have to wire them yet....
This pic is with them in the extended position. |

And retracted

are those mirrors made by clearview ? i saw some to suit my ranger the week and thought how handy they will be when i have the trailer hooked up
|
What an excellent idea with the mirrors.
Years ago I had an 85 F100 4x4 long wheel base. It was a big lump of a thing but a lot of fun. Mine was running a 351C on straight LPG. I used it to tow my Cobra back from Sydney when I picked it up from CR. The newer ones are definitely a lot more refined. It was a great tow vehicle and you could throw a heap of stuff in the back. Driving through Sydney peak hour with a tandem trailer on the back was no fun though. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...409traffic.JPG Cheers |
