LS Chevy boys...

From time to time I like getting stuck into those tofu eating, man-scaping, infidels who stick Chevys in their Cobras...:p

But, but, but... Darn it... Stuff like this doesn't help...

OK, in a fleeting moment of weakness, this blue jedi wants to congratulate the LS brigade on their choice (despite it being the dark side. You've done well, but you already knew that ;)

Pls feel free to celebrate by posting your pics.

Enjoy!

Tom Nelson is the engine guru in the San Fernando Valley. He 's mellowed out in his middle years. if u got deep pockets and want something special, Tom is your guy.

Now Dimis, your next mission, should you choose to accept it.

Find something that sings the praises of the blue oval engines!

Just give us something!!

Gav 10-08-2015 03:02 PM

'They are cheap, make lots of power, they are the best engine available ATM'
Couldn't of said it better myself.

Why where you searching for 'why is the LS engine so good' Dimis?????
I think you are being swayed to the dark side, alloy cobra with an alloy LS...you know you want to...

Nelson Racing Engines are a bunch of shonky operators, have ripped off countless people.

Interesting reading here:-

Nelson racing engines "warning" - US MUSCLE

Having said that, LS engines rule!

OK, I'll give it a blast :D

Yes, it definitely was Chevrolet that started the small block thin wall revolution way back in the '50s, so Ford had to jump on board with its own lightweight (thin wall) small block.
....but which engine was it that finally beat Ferrari at its own game in the World Sportscar Championship for GT cars? It was Ford's small block 289.
And which engine was it that beat Porsche for outright at Le Mans in 1968 and 1968? Fords small block 302.
The only other production block engine I can think of that's got anywhere near that sort of world stage performance record is BMW's M10 based four cylinder turbo engine, winning the F1 championship in 1983. Now that's successful!
Maybe the BWM turbo engine would be a good idea in a Cobra! :p
Hmm...no, I'll stick with my SBF

Cheers,
Glen

It did cross my mind back when I was mulling the options...

So went to my local church - Sandown, and confessed my dirty thoughts to the scrutineers, who suggested "Rehab".
So off I trotted to rehab, you know, the expensive one all the famous celebs go to... Washed my self in a bath Mobil 1, splashed a bit of race gas for cologne, and was cleansed!

I'm subscribed to the DRIVEN youtube channel.

Sheesh... that's not hard at all... ;)

FORD have pretty much WON everything at every level of auto-racing across just about every category I can think of: From World rally Champs, to NASCAR & Oval racing, to Indycar, to F1 to Aus touring car, to European touring car, to LeMan, to... blah blah blah.

I don't know of another manufacturer that can make such a claim...

Honda perhaps? But I've got a lot of respect for Honda too, they make more engines than just about anyone else on a global scale - Don't just think cars, think motorbikes, and boats.... Even garden gear like chainsaws, lawnmowers, weed hackers...

Hoity 10-08-2015 05:04 PM

I don't doubt Fords racing pedigree, I am looking for Fords answer to the LS, affordable cheap power.

The Ford Modular engines look great from the performance side of things, its just the cost per KW compared to the Chev. I am sure the majority of Cobra owners would put a ford motor in there if the $$ were comparable, after all we all know the history of the Cobra powerplant!

The AC cobra has always worn AC clothes, but deep within its soul was a heart of blue. :)

There you go... TR - throw enough darts at a board eventually you'll hit the target. :p

Incidentally, does anyone have the split of Red vs Blue engines from Nationals?

Just curious as to which of the these two responses I need to enact when in a bar fight on this topic - Fight or Flight? %/

Not taking anything away from Ford's GT40 Lemans wins but don't forget that Chevrolet didn't have a factory entry in most of those races back in the 60's. They had a corporate ban on racing. All of the chev motors racing were in the hands of privateers like Jim Hall and his Chaparrals.

Ford wanted to make a point of kicking Ferrari's but due to the failed takeover. Plenty of money was thrown at that program.

On a side note there is a good documentary on YouTube about those early turbo era F1 engines [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7obqh6QDu2Y"]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7obqh6QDu2Y[/ame]

Cheers

The spread of red to blue would be pretty even.
But to be honest who cares?

..

Have I got this correct? Your crowing that in 1964 a specially built car powered by a 4.7ltr motor, designed in 1962, beat a road going car designed in late 1961 and powered 3.0ltr motor designed in 1947. Well it didn't. Ferrari won the Championship.

I've sent your details to the boys in Calabria. Expect a visit.

Hey Peter,
1965 World Sportscar Championship, GT Manufacturers, 'open' category (over 2000cm³) ....Shelby 90.0 points, Ferrari 71.3 points
Well I thought it was a big deal that Shelby whipped Enzo's pants, so my dad bought me that little green Cobra in my avatar.

Probabilmente conosco quelle persone in Calabria :3DSMILE:

Ciao,
Glen
