Sorry, I just couldn't ever go the "dead pipes" route!
Then I would have to buy a leaf blower for the driveway...:LOL:

I'm saying it's not a requirement, and not in the ADR.

What I didn't say was "don't fit them".

The point being, we all get upset when some bureaucrat desk jockey makes up rules out of thin air; it's therefore important that we only follow the rules which are written down.

Re: general safety requirements. This covers radiuses and sharp edges. Again, no mention of heat or burning. The same ADR applies to motorcycles with exposed headers, yet no heat shield required on them.

In short: a consistent approach is what we should have, and hence follow the rules as interpreted by mass manufacturers... They're the ones making money via the ADRs!

I could only imagine what a Cobra burn looks like. My wife burned her ankle on an old bike of mine 20 years ago and still wears the mark. she only did it once though.

Thanks guys for all the comments, I hadn't thought of China as a viable option. Has anyone bought any other items from the source eg bumpers, overriders, quick jacks etc?

Just a thought...Maybe get them ceramic coated on the inside. That might reduce the heat soak a bit.

letsboogie351 07-22-2016 02:47 AM

Oilman,
the pipes on gumtree look suspiciously like the ones I got from China. At around half the price of those offered on gumtree.

oilman 07-22-2016 04:40 AM

Yes, they are definitely the same. They are about 50% more than I paid.
