Stainless Steel Live Pipes
I am looking for a set of live polished Stainless Steel side pipes for a Cobra I am building. I don't want mild steel, ceramic coated or chromed. I am looking for full length pipes. Would appreciate any leads on who may do these in Australia (I'm in Vic) or sources in the US where you may have purchased from and are happy with the service/price/quality.

Oilman, talk to Ozvenom (Scotty Hampson) Venom Custom Fabrications in Meadowbrook Brisbane. He's made pipes for all sorts of cobras including Digby Cookes Stainless units on his Robnell.
Remember they will be like 2 very long BBQ HOT plates when those gases are pumping through em and you will need some of this to remove your skin once it bites you.

Also remember it will turn goldish yellow from the headers back like a fire place flute.

live pipes ie sidepipes that actually are connected and work as compared to dead or dummy pipe decoration only .

Sorry to hijack thread but didn't want to start another one on similar subject.
Has anyone seen or know anything about aspeng.com.au they have side pipes listed that look pretty good. But only in bare steel or ceramic coated.
Have seen photos of pipes built by a guy in Adelaide (nickscf.com.au)( I think that's the address) that look good too.
Gas-n pipes in the US get pretty good reviews from all the ffr guys that are running them from what I see on their forum.
I am only running dummy pipes and thinking satin black for mine but would be keen to see what's out there.
Really want to get one like the superformace ones as I like the way the 4 into one is done.
Last time I spoke to Craig from pace he was in talks with the people that are doing the headers re the side pipes but not sure how that went as it was back in November and I haven't followed it up as I have been away all of December and not back until mid February.

Live pipes
Yeah lots of guys in Aus. Very restrictive with noise regulations to get the car registered. I personally also have small kids that will be around the car lots so don't want to risk burning them and don't want heat shields. The Pace car lots of us are building have channels built into the chassis to hide the undercar system without sacrificing ground clearance.

Sadly due to laws, most States wont allow the use of side pipes (although I understand that is changing) but I think they are required to have a guard over them to protect from burning.

Learn to carry a "Snake Bite Kit" in the trunk which will include burn medication, bandages etc and learn to lecture anyone that gets in the car about the pipes, even folks that have been in it before. I preach it to them before they get in and again before they get out because they will forget.

I can put my hand on them whilst driving without a problem. It's when I stop that they radiate the heat.
Was thinking of getting a couple of welding blankets to lay over them while they cool down.

the law changed in 2007... it's not new. Heat shields is not a requirement either - no mention of heat in the ADRs. |

an engineer suggested to me that they consider heat shields under the "general safety requirements" ADR and it would be at the discretion of the engineer.

The bloke at MVR (Motor vehicle Registry) Darwin said heat shields were required over sidepipes when fitted to a Territory vehicle.
Common bloody sense I reckon !

I was showing a mate my engine bay and touched my leg onto the pipes. Still got the mark 3 years later
I have now gone the fake way and bring the pipes out tucked up just behind the rear wheel. My pipes have the looked of well used live pipes though as they have that yellow tinge but I don't have to worry about burning myself again.
