Default Shipping Courier from LA or West Coast

Gday Guys
I was looking at getting some rubber in from the US to Melbourne.
I noticed Tire rack has deals with some tyre manufacturers that prevent sales outside the USA. TOYO is one of them and I was after some R888R's. I joined a site that gives a US postal address to get around this, but they ship from Florida. Im thinking its got to be cheaper from the West Coast surely ?
Im quite restricted due to 17"rims and a 275 rear width request, plenty of 255's in this style (semi slick) but I really want the 275's.
I could possible get the 235/45/17 here, but the 275/40/17 are a problem.

Anyone got any suggestions about who I should be talking to on the West Coast ?

Cheers
Chris L

Hi Chris,

A little of topic, but I have dealt with and plan on dealing again with BLP in Florida. The shipping is horrendous for a 3lb box.

Perhaps my carburettor parts could be stashed inside your tyres?

Chris, do you have an atlas? West coast LA is much closer and cheaper than the east coast NY or Florida.

Chris

Did you contact tirerack about shipping? I enquired about sending over a set of Toyo RA1s a couple of months ago and they had no problems. A bit pricey but they simply can't be had this side of the pond. Haven't bitten the bullet yet so it could all go pear shaped when I do.

TireRack has warehouses throughout the U.S. they more than likely would ship from a West Coast warehouse. Otherwise, you could contact Roger Krause Racing (also on the west coast) and see if they would ship the Toyo R888R's which they carry. Good luck.

Thanks gents for the input;
Tengu....not sure where your going with that.......that is precisely the question Im asking eg any good shipping mobs in LA to be recommended.

It was Walt at Tire rack that informed me recently of the deals they now have with TOYO, Yokohama, Bridgestone and Hankook prevent them selling outside the USA.

I will see what shakes out, I may just grab a set of NT01 Nittos here in Australia, they have my sizes and seem reasonably priced........got to be better track day rubber than the 7 year old Kuhmos currently doing service.
I got hold of some Hoosier slicks a while ago, they are new, but old in tyre terms. They appear ok and for the money I took a chance as I was assured they have been stored correctly. I'm looking for something to do the Nationals in and maybe the odd MSCA track day. The Kuhmos are for the road, the slicks are experimental and the semi slicks are for Club days. More tyres than brains Im thinking......

Cheers

Remember in some states the NT01's arent road legal. i.e QLD

Id need to check but I doubt the NT01 will be classed as an R spec Road Legal. The NT05 (200) is allowed but the NT01 might put you in race class unknowingly.

Check the regs..

Might be a question worth asking on the NT01 as to where it'd put you.

For Class 7 – Only tyres from the approved list below can be used. No R-spec
tyres will be approved and the minimum UTQG rating permitted will be 180.
Tyre width, profile and rim diameter will be free.
Cobra Nationals 2018 - Class 7 approved tyre list Effective date: 1-3-2018
Brand: Model: UTQG
Kumho Ecsta XS KU36 180
Federal 595RS-RR 200
Nitto NT05 (only tyres labeled UTQG 200 are approved) 200
Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 180
Yokohama Advan Neova AD08 R 180
Falken AZENIS RT615K+ 200

This is what the Nitto Rep told me a while back.

""the NT01's are only completely street legal in NT, WA and SA. They are deemed a competition tyre in NSW, VIC and QLD due to there being no traditional load rating printed on the sidewall.""

Buy that you'd assume not street legal and a slick tyre cat only....though its not.

Crazy world we live in.

Further deciphering of the regs suggest...

TYRES:
All tyres used during the event must meet the following criteria, unless modified by class
specific tyre regulations.
a) Approved for road use in NSW and marked with numbers and lettering by the tyre
manufacturer which provide information about aspect ratio, speed rating and load
carrying capacity.

So no good...it seems.

Chris, last bit of info for you.

CAMS by definition has confirmed for the NSW SS Champs has them as a race tyre only.
You may need clarification and confirmation from the NSWCCC as to their position on them before you buy them just to be sure.

Nitto NT01 confirmed as Race Tyres

Actually, ADR 24 requires load and speed ratings. A vehicle can not be compliant to the ADR with fitment of tyres without these. I suggest that the Nitto rep is stretching the truth somewhat as ADRs are a national requirement.
