Will

I would be wealthier without an addiction to cars.... lol :JEKYLHYDE

I love Corvettes ( almost as much as Cobras);

I’ve had in my collection through the years:
- silver ‘66 convertible
- Marlboro maroon ‘67 convertible 435 hp 427 (sellers remorse)
- silver 2009 427 Z06 (tried to kill me)
- Red 2015 tan ZL1 interior
- so I thought I’d try a strait axe Vette so I picked up the ‘59 Vette.

I think the corvette are good cruisers .... much more comfortable to drive ( I’m 6’5. 235lbs). Better width and leg room. That being said I have always loved the Cobra. The looks and lines are classic!

So you do have good taste.

Take care,

Will, Any progress to report ?

Hi Muzza, I have been working on the Cobra. I've had a couple of spanners thrown into my build (probably bloody Whitworth) because of the shutdowns.I was meant to be in America this week. I have a whole lot of parts waiting for me at a friend's house in San Diego ( all the gauges, fuel tank sender, Hurst shifter, wiper assembly and some brightwork). I also have an order I placed with Finishline on 26th Feb for all my bumpers with bracketry and some other interior bits and pieces). I also have my windscreen assembly waiting for me in N.S.W.
"First World problems" though. We are very lucky here when you look at what is going on in other parts of the world.
On a brighter note, I have made my headers, from a box of mandrel bends and had them ceramic coated. I'm quite pleased with how they have turned out, considering it was my first attempt.
I have also cut the petrol tank out of a sheet of 2mm aluminium, had it folded, then I brought it home and welded it together.
I am making the brake and fuel lines at the moment and want to have those done before I refit the body a to the chassis.
I have made the dash panel. I cut and folded a buck from mild steel, made a fibreglass mould from that, then made the fibreglass panel.
I had planned on completely building the car then disassembling for paint, but due to my shortage of parts, I'm going to press on with the body and paint work, to keep things moving along.
Stay healthy. Will.

Build sounds like its coming along well Will, have you any pics you can post?
I was able to spend loads of time over Easter in the garage because of the current situation, fortunately i have been collecting parts for a couple of years so i pretty much have most of what i need to complete my build.

Very handy for you to have a friend in USA, shipping parts from there (plus aussi $) adds a lot to any purchase.

Are you doing your own body and paint?

Richard

Will, Good to see things progressing - great to see you fabricating a lot of your own components. Will have to catch up, beyond this crisis. Take care.

Post Coro shed run?

willandrache 04-15-2020 05:29 AM

thanks guys for the encouragement.
Yes, I am doing the body and paint myself.
I have done all of the body repairs, alignment and panel gaps.
There was a lot more bodywork required than I expected, but it sure beats doing rust repairs. :)
I have started the first stage of primer/sealer. Still a long way to go...
