AU Falcon IRS in a Cobra
has it been done yet?
any plus/minus to be know? thanks :> |
G'day LOWNLAZY , check out www.classicrevival.com.au . This is the car I've been checking out. Ian the owner of the company uses the complete IRS package out of the AU xr6-8. He has designed a beautiful car. The only gripe I have with using the Falcon IRS is the width of the rear end. If you like modern wheels and tyres , it won't be a concern. However if your like me and prefer a more original appearance, you can't maintain a meaty front offset on the rear wheels. I guess this would be a small sacrifice for what is a fantastic looking car.

Hi Lownlazy,
There are a few pics of the AU IRS in my gallery. I'm very happy with the Ford set up. It's completely and easily adjustable for camber and toe in. It's also a double unequal length wishbone set up with CV joints in the drive shafts. I'm expecting the car to handle extremely well. I agree with Stephen, these rear ends really lend themselves to the look of 17" wheels. Check out Sloth's car as an example... Hello Mike , how are you progressing with the car?
|
Hi Stephen,
Progressing OK, been pretty busy with work lately and other jobs around the house. I'm finally picking up my motor tomorrow so I'll have to post some more up to date pics when I get it home. Have you been down to Ian's workshop lately? I hear Sloth's car is almost completed and looks awesome. Well worth a look if you are in the area. Cheers |
Good to hear.
No unfortunately not . I've been to busy myself. It kind of sounds silly, but the next time I see him will be when I'm ready to buy. Being a salesman myself, I feel guilty taking up too much of his time. My biggest concern at the moment however , is working out wether or not the 4.64v Mustang engine will pass rego without the full emmisions tests. It is my understanding that any new vehicle available for sale both here in Oz and Europe is acceptable. If this is correct , then I could use the Robnell (ADR certified?) , the new MG ZT and future AC CRS 4.6 as examples. Do you Know if this is correct? Any help would be appreciated! |
Hi there Mike
Good to hear your progressing well with your car. I cant see anything wrong with the look of the wheels under Sloth's car. My toes where getting itchy (haveing money there for the classic revivals kit) they where so itchy that we had a cv6 monaro traded in at work last week that i nearly bought it. I was glad to survive the week and wake up realiseing the cobra is what i really want :) All is going well out here (still cant get used to not slowing down when the coppers come from the other dirrection) Hard to believe you can drive to Tennant creek 500 klm's and it takes about 3 1/2 hours I have been talking to c.o.m.e and will modt likely fit there 383 stroker crank and rods/pistons to my engine. They tell me i wont be needing to use a different engine management system to run the stroked motor, I know the holden system is programable but didnt know of anyone who could do it. Maybe i am being one eyed holden supporter |
Stephen, not that it helps with your emissions tests, but at least here's a look at another car with the 4.6L Ford.
This one's a beautiful ERA...... http://www.nw-cars.com/NW%20C.A.R.S....age/page15.htm |
Thanks for the info Stephen and Mike :>
Classic revivals from a glance seem to make excellent stuff. Is this the general feel from the Oz Cobra community? |
Hi Lownlazy,
I'm very happy with the quality and engineering of the Classic Revival kit. Ian makes a top quality product and I'd certainly reccomend one of his kits. (I'm biased though since I bought one :3DSMILE: ) David, All I can say mate is "keep the faith". You would never be satisfied with the Monaro. A new Monaro is still just a drive off the showroom floor, every one's got one tin top. The Cobra is an Icon and in a league of it's own. BTW I can't see anything wrong with Sloth's wheels either. I love the look of em and I'll be using the same thing. Stepehen, I picked up my LS1 from Eagle on Saturday (WooHoo!!) While I was there I was checking out the new 4.6 Mustang motors they had. They do a complete motor and trans for $12K or $9K for just the motor. Looking at the LS1 and the 4.6 sitting side by side and the 4.6 is huge!! It seems to be a wider V (could be an ilusion) and the OHC heads are very fat making the whole thing very wide. I was chatting with one of the owners of Robnel the other day and I was asking him about this 3 Year old engine rule. He thinks that it may be repealed since it has been so unpopular in the industry. We can only hope. Cheers |
Any one family with Perth's rego laws in regards to engine size/emissions?
As far as Im aware there almost more restrictive than Eastern states. |
My car is almost ready and does look awesome. Latest pics are in the gallery for those that are interested. Still ironing out some hurdles and waiting for V.I.N.......
cheers |
