What's Your Best ET for the 1/4

After Garret's efforts at the LS1 Nats on the weekend, I think it's time to ask others what their Cobras can do.

Lets not limit this to the boys with big/forced motors. For one, I would like to know what my cobra will do "out of the box" (after rego before the mods).

So time to fess up :D

How about telling your fellow cobra devotees:

1: Best ET @ mph
2: Best top speed
3: Rwkw
4: Engine & trannie combo

Gentlemen & Ladies start your engines!

Cheers

I have not ran a good lap where I couldn't have done better if:....

But at last years Run and Gun with my clutch smoking like a set of crystalized rings I posted 11.82 @ 119.7 MPH Goodyear Drags slicks

However, at Road America last fall my fastest speed on the straightaway was roughly 142 mph. Hoosier Road TA Race tires

My set up is fairly simple:

428 bored .030 over, modest solid lifter cam 592 lift and 232 dur
(at that time I was running 2X4 set up w/ Edelbrock 600 cfm carbs). Alum heads, MSD dist and box plus a couple other little things.

Toploader 4 speed and 3.50 rear limited slip diff

There are better speeds in this engine if the driver was better.

best time so far is 11.74

Street tires,

Grand National 3.8 v6 turbo

automatic 3200 stall

Mr.Fixit 04-20-2004 09:52 AM

Before I disassembled it, the old 67 chevelle SS 396 would run

13.30 @ 114 mph

Winston winner 245/60/15's radials out back

9:1 compression, 402 cid, untouched factory iron heads, th400 automatic, 3.73 gears. ET should be much lower, but those crappy tires didn't hook up. Car is patietly waiting to be reassembled.

14 seconds flat @ 109mph at calder park about 14 years ago
In my Datsun 180bsss.
I crossed the line in 3rd gear @ 8000rpm
I still have the pink time slip to prove it.
The time doesnt sound all that special but that was with 13"x6" wheels and tyres, complete legal exhaust, full weight vehicle, etc

9 sec Cobra 04-22-2004 06:46 AM

Hey Guys

Best aspirated time so far 10.79 @ 126 MPH

Hi Al,

Quickest ive been is 10:81@136MPH on a Suzuki gsxr750t, i'd kill to have the new 1000 it would have to be good for mid 10's straight out of the box.

I'd be pretty happy if my cob could hold its own against bikes on the 1/4.:D

Cheers Robo

Clois

I'm a bit off topic here I guess but I'm hitting 6000rpm to get 140
This is with a 428, Toploader and 3.31 dif.

Since I got the car (I bought it fully built) I've been wondering what a realistic red line is. It has had a crane cam put in although I don't know which one exactly.

I was thinking though that you must be hitting 6500+ rpm to get that speed depending on tyres.

I guess I'm sounding a bit of a novice here and that would be true. Not many people use FEs in the UK.

Paul,
I'm running almost the identical set-up on my 428 as you. My builder put in a 6200 rpm rev limiter in my MSD box. I was told the red line starts at 64 - 6500 rpm.

:D

Hi,

Yep, thats about where my limiter is set at. I had an interesting time 'Testing' it in 4th just to make sure :D

It all seemed to work fine but I wasn't too sure as I'm no expert on Ford FEs and there arn't that many experts here in the UK.

Best Run

My best run was at Run & Gun last year.

It was a 10.71 @ 123 on a practice run.

Best run in elimination was a 10.9 I believe. Car is in this months Kit Car at a 10.9.

Car is capable of a 10.50 or so (I think:)

Brian Dinsmore 04-29-2004 07:23 PM

10.74 @123 Normally asperated 289/tremec/4.11's/slicks

RICK LAKE 04-29-2004 07:31 PM

Justa6 Hey Bob where are you hiding that NOS bottle?   I know it's in that car somewhere:rolleyes: Is that 10.5 into the wind;) You and PeteT are the most fun to watch or race against. One of these days the tech guys are going to find that bottle.:D Until then your the quickest 6 I know. :D The quickest stock body and wheel base car is Stacy P ERA couple of years ago with a 9.84 at 139 mph with a 200 hit of NOS in a tunnel port 4 speed cobra. This was at Run&Gun. With no juice 10.08 on all motor Is the fastest I have seen. WTurpin and DavesS both cars are banging on the 9 second barrier. I think this year someone will break through. Rick Lake

justa6 05-24-2004 07:05 PM

Rick,

Sorry for the late reply but I've been "busy"...

No there was no NOS last year BUT IF I go this year and IF the Mickey Thompson RADIAL slicks work well on keeping the car straight we "might" try a little juice to see if the 6 will go in the 9's. I figure it would take a 200 shot to do it. If the car still doesn't go straight I'll stick with the 112 Octane.

Hope all is well with you...

Regards,
