second problem
Noise there is something happening to me am i just old???? the gilmer drive on the front sometimes its just abit much any way of knocking the edge off it. rumours have said to drill something some where good idea HUH??? love to know where though :3DSMILE: **)

Don't worry about all these low lifes that are like vultures just waiting for some poor innocent guy to make a mistake.:D Now I think what your saying is the gilmer drive belt is making alot of noise and it's getting on your nerves. If so maybe it could be either to tight, to lose or just not worn in - a belt that is new compared with a worn belt can vary quite alot in thickness and in width. I may have a solution for you. The noise is possibly a couple of things. 1. Too tight, (gilmer drives dont need a lot of tension). If too to tight the belt may not be meshing correctly on the drive. 2. The main noise is from air being squeezed out of the toothed area. I have heard a solution to quieten these down is to drill holes in the milled (lower) section of each of the drive wheels. Check the internet hot rod chat sites or search "gilmer drives". (you will need to drill a couple of holes in each section check out more info from other sites) 3. If its new it may be the drive gears have some sharp edges catching on the belt. May need to smooth off rough edges. Hope this helps. TC |

Tony gave you the scoop. Check the ten. first. Then drill the holes, to let the air out. Also make sure you have the correct belt..:cool:

to add the noise back into system drill the holes from the other side. You can also use my invention to add a cool sound and I will fax a drawing to you if you want. You will need to buy a deck of playing cards and some 200 MPH tape to keep cards in the spokes of the wheels. VERY COOL STUFF
In H.S. I had an old truck..... a 1941 chebbie with a 216 six banger. It had vac. operated windshield wipers. We used to get going about 50 MPH down mainstreet (almost top speed ) and turn off ignition= put vac hose to wipers in a bucket of kerosene until it ran out tailpipe with clutch depressed. Then turn on ignition and pop clutch...... The result was solid white smoke that would fill 2 lanes of traffic each way so bad you could not see any cars behind you. Did this until smoke cleared and could see the red and blue lights flashing behind us. From what I can find out it is holes drilled in every milled section. Will try and find out more and post reply. Not sure why yours does not make any noise unless it has holes drilled. Mine is well worn and can be heard in the cabin easily. Other possibility is worn belt (ie square sections have too much slack and air not getting trapped.) or incorrent belt as "ebustin" suggested? Anyway will try and find out more. PS. They must have run out of moonshine over there into kerosene now?????? :confused: TC |
