Door & boot rubber
Q1/ I need to look into where you get door & boot rubber seals. Will fit while it is in undercoat for sometime and dont wont to chip or damage while its in this stage. You guys who have finished your cars unpainted did you fit rubber. Is the rubber profile the same for all doors & bonnets? and how is it attached to the panels. Look forward to your help.
Q2/ Also need to get a fire extinguisher, whats the ideal size and type. Also I think you can get them in chrome finish. Any ideas ? Thanks Leeroy |
Hi Leeroy,
Ian supplied my door seals as part of upholstery package. It is fairly soft and is normally used in industry for gaskets on duct flanges. It is available in various widths and thickneses and comes pre glued. Really easy to fit.Not cheap if you have to buy the whole roll but you may be able to do a deal with Mike. Available fom places like Blackwoods. As for extinguishers 1kg should be sufficient. I think short ones look best and easier to find a space. If you want to do track work then it needs to meet a certain standard ie metal support brackets etc and needs to be replaced every couple of years. Regards, Phil |

Here in Queensland we have a supplier called Clark Rubber...Dunno if they exist in your neck of the woods. My local Clark Rubber has so many pinch welds...rubber gaskets...automotive door seals etc etc., that I just get confused as to what to use. So many of them...all different profiles etc. Cheers |

Check out E-Bay for the fire extinguisher. I picked a brand new 1.2KG chrome one for $50. Took the labels off (naughty) and it looks the bizz. Little kids think its a nos tank:MECOOL: |

Try "Bill Thompson - Auto Rubbers" in Ringwood on Maroondah Highway just down from "Eastland", sorry dont have number on me. Has heaps of profiles to choose from and should have everthing you need. Be careful with the door rubbers can cause issues with door closing. Good luck. Regards Tony |

Unfortunately red doesn't go with my blue Cobra otherwise I would have done you a swap. Mine is approx 380 x 80mm dia and fits nicely between the seats. Tried to find out where I got it from (somewhere in the Blue Mountains I think), but could'nt find the info - sorry. Keep looking on E-Bay as they do turn up every so often. I know you can pick them up pretty cheap in the States. Pic attached: |

With the LS1motor you will need the Fire Station 21 model for sure. :LOL: %/ As suggested, Bill Thompson or his son there are ideal for all the rubber profiles. Also check with Doug as he buys a bit of stock. Cheers Bernie |

Never needed to use it so you may be right;) Nearly used it the other week when a fire (smoke) broke out when sorting out my dash wiring - battery charger shorted! Tell you what, when your wires start cooking the cockpit soon fills up with smoke. No damage, just the charger cables, which needed lengthening anyway. Doubt I would have used the chrome extinguisher anyway - too pretty to use :rolleyes: |

Whilst tidying the garage out (things you do on a Public Holiday) I found the contact for chrome extinguishers: Kenzay at Katoomba (NSW) 0417 664475 Mine was a 2.5 lb extinguisher. Note, it came with a red harness, but I had a black one anyway so simply swapped it. Give them a call and see what they have. |

Not quite. I need some shiny bits to give my motivation a bost.
Actually I'm looking at using the extinguisher bracket as part of a mod to my chassis. I've been modifying the seat belt mounts and roll bar mounts to strengthen the whole area in the boot. The bracket will sandwich one section of the bodywork and make the bulkhead a bit more rigid and less likely to drum. I figure you can make 1 bracket do a couple of different jobs. Cheers |
