Mota Lita steering wheel
Hey there everyone.
Can someone do me a favour and measure there Mota Lita wheel with 6 mount base and tell me how far the holes are from each other? Just measure opposites thanks. |

I measured my moto lita but I am not very happy with the demension as I can only measure across the mounting screws. It measured 101.0 mm (with good quality vernier) this size dose not feel right as I would have expected it to be 100mm or 101.6mm (4") hopfuly someone else can confirm the size. Craig W :confused: |
Thanks Craig, I agree that does seem to be an odd number and agree that either 4 inches or 100 mm is most likely.

I have and moto-lita 1/2 inch spacer that i just measured. Using dial calipers...outside to outside was 2.995 inches and the hole measured .212 inches so CL is 2.783

4" bolt circle sounds like the 9 bolt ring rather than the 6 bolt. I would have thought it closer to 2.5" or 3"

Now I am getting more and more confused.
I can get a saas adaptor to suit my colomn and it has 6 mounting holes. I just dont know if the saas adaptor will fit the Mota Lita wheel |
There's a couple of different Motolita wheel designs. One has a larger mountin bolt circle and uses 9 bolts and the other has a smaller circle and only 6 bolts.
I went with the 9 bolt 'cause I like the look of the larger boss. I machined up an adaptor ring and machined down a SAAS 6 bolt boss to make it all fit. There's a few pictures of the wheel in my gallery. Steering wheel Cheers |
Did you use the 14 inch or 15 inch wheel Mike?
Is there enough room around the drivers door with the wheel you have? I am thinking I should just buy the adaptor and modify to suit. |
How do you guy's and gal's manage to race with those huge steering wheels?????
Surely a momo would be better suited (although not quite as traditional). Maybe you change the wheel for trackwork. Then again I have a momo and don't race%/ |
I thought I would dig up this ancient thread on steering wheels rather than start another one. I've got my eye on the repro MK3 9 bolt wheel from FinishLine.
My Harrison kit uses a KC-KE Ford Laser column with 16mm (5/8" ?) spline. Has anyone fitted the above wheel to this column or does anyone have any info to help narrow down the options as far as adapters and boss kits? What wheel do you currently have Sambo?
Is it a 9 bolt hub (big) or 6 bolt hub (small)? The CR uses a Barina/Swift colomn and only available adapter (at the time) was the 6 bolt type. A mate machined up a spacer to mount the 9 bolt wheel to the 6 bolt hub. Thanks Aussie Mike. |
Dave, just the Laser wheel at this stage. I also prefer the bigger 9 bolt wheel centre but I'll give ground if I can't find a suitable adapter.

The 6-bolt hub is the original style and if you want to be absolutely correct, you also have the split hub steering wheel:

Thanks FatBoy, I knew about the split wheel but I'm not building a 1:1 replica. The solid centre would probably flex less too, no?

The 9 bolt is quite synonymous with Jaguars of the 50's, and looks good. The 6- bolt Moto Lita fits the Sparco spacer fine I believe.
