Fire Extinguisher Mounting
To All,
Getting ready for the Nationals and need to mount the Extinguisher other than the normal places. Looking for ideas on places to mount and where others have found some innovative ways (types of brackets / hidden) to install inside the cabin at arms reach. Other options to setup so extinguisher so it can be mounted for track events and removed out of cabin for cruising. Have searched through the forum but not a lot of information on different mounting options. Hope someone can help. Regards TC |
Mount it using nutserts in the tunnel or the rear bulkhead. Since you don't have to get in the back to undo them they make attaching or removing the extinguisher easy. They also leave a neat hole that won't look untidy when the extingusher is removed.

Here's a method of mounting the fire extinguisher that doesn't require drilling holes . . . and it's right there if you need it. I mounted the fire-extinguisher bracket to the roll bar with two stainless-steel hose clamps.

Mount it horizontal on the rear bulkhead between the seats. That way its out of the way yet easy to grab in an emergency. Also, less clutter in the cockpit. Not nice, snagging your tights getting in and out of the car (thats if you wear them!):p |

Mike, I will look at some nutserts tomorrow and will be mounting on Wednesday ("Cobra working bee" for me this week) Peter, I was more worried about the stockings and high heels? Your right however that was the only spot I thought I could get it in. The other spot for me is on the door side unders the drivers seat in my car but I think easy access is the way to go (dont wont to be fumbling at the moment I need to be quick). Tom, Nice extinguisher. You have a lot more room in the bulk head area than I do. My roll bar is covered by this also. It looks like between the seats for me. Thanks for the ideas. I have mine screwed to the floor on the passanger side, parralel with the front of the seat. It's out of the way for the passenger getting in & out & it's easy to grab (although if it came to the cruch you might be grabing your nuts & running REEEEEEEEALLy fast rather than reaching for the extinguisher) It reminds me of the pissy little blue extinguisher on the side of petrol tankers. YEAH RIGHT!!!!!!! Cheers The Bat |

I have two little holes in the base of the passengers seat.
The base padding is in 2 parts and held by velcro, so I can take the front pad and stick it to the rear and the bottle goes to the front. |

I am sure I will stand next to the car for a good hour trying to decide on the best spot. Passenger side is more appealing will have a look tomorrow. Only 5 weeks to go AAARRRGGGHH!!!. Should be long enough to put the bracket somewhere. Cheers TC |

I am not sure just how much you plan to use the car on tracks, but if quite a bit why don't you look into putting in the fire supression system. It is more expensive than just the extinguisher, but you can mount the bottle or bottles, depending on how many you want, in the trunk and the plumbing isn't hard. Then you can have a spray nozzle on the drivers side and the one under the hood and if you want one on the passenger side. Then all you have to mount in the car is the switch or pull ring to turn it on. Just a thought and not trying to sell you on something you won't need at all for daily driving. Ron |

Thanks for the reply. I am a relative novice at the track scene in a cobra so I will be finding an easy spot to place a portable extinguisher. Have got some ideas while out visiting friends today as the weather was great. I have started making removeable bracket for the passenger side of the car. Still in easy reach and can remove the assembly when the passengers start complaining about leg room. Cheers TC |
