Finally got my race car

Well, it took some planning and sacrifices, but I was able to organise the purchase of this M8B McLaren just prior to my trip to the US earlier this month.

I just have to lose some weight before I can consider fitting in it. As is, I just stand back and admire it's beauty. With it's flowing, purposeful lines, it could have been a model...

Leeroy 10-27-2004 08:43 PM

Graig, I'm only 65kg, I'll take off your hands while you loss some weight. Your right it could have model, she must have a name?

PCC - Gotcha ! I did say from the outset that it could have been a model..... ;) When your son sells his F250, let's throw the rest of your nitro in my fuel tank! Where do you buy nitro from anyway?

GMP make some of the most amazing 1:18 scale models, and I couldn't resist this M8B and my other favourite, the Lola T70 Mk3B. I don't think anyone sells this brand out here. I bought them new off Ebay ,and had them delivered to the hotel that I was staying at. My sister thought I was crazy when I almost ran up to the hotel room after checking in so that I could have a look at the cars !

Garrett and Al - you guys have all the cool toys !!!

PCC 10-28-2004 01:03 AM

BIG LET DOWN CRAIG:rolleyes:

For one moment it did look real, but I forgot you and your trick photography.

Must learn to read the messages:p

You can get nitro from car hobby shops - usually 15% ratio.

My son's F250 would even leave your Cobra for standing!..... until you caught up and ran over it:D

Hey that looks good sitting out the front of the house.

Lucky the ride on mower didn't come past.

Ultima Can Am?? Yeah a bit like one.

%/

A certain ex Cobra builder, racer etc. Who now builds other kit cars is looking at building Ultima Can Ams soon!! Look out for an anouncement soon.

May not be that long before the 1:1 scale is out the front..%/

Funny you mention running over cars - my next door neighbour came out to see why I was crouched down in the middle of the road, taking a photo of a model car. No trick photography - just a bored guy sitting around at home with too much time on his hands. I'm sick, but I won't get any sympathy from this crowd....

It is my mission in life to either own an M8 McLaren (M8B, M8D, or M8F), or a T70 Lola. It certainly won't be anytime soon, but it's something that will always play on my mind until it becomes reality. The last one for sale was an M8D with questionable history, and they were still asking $230,000 USD. Like I said, it won't be anytime soon.....

BMK 10-28-2004 01:32 AM

Craig

Thats about $300,000 plus customs, duty etc etc.

Perhaps.. ....1:18 scale for a bit longer..

Where's my credit card..

Here's an interesting one

%/

Just World Cars edition '104' - October 2004.

front cover - colour photo and add...%/

Manta Mirage, 1974, full rebuild in 2002. 351 Winsdsor, Corvair rear end, wheels - 14 x 8" (F) and 15 x 10" (R), ex show car, engineers certificate, NSW blue slip, very rare and unique, rego MAN - 18C Ph; 02 46282267.

And they printed the price at $25,000.... wonder how many calls this guy got before the price was corrected.

Bernie

I wish I had my credit card handy

Rebel1 10-28-2004 01:38 AM

Wished I was driving along your street when you were playing photographer. ;)

Just a speed bump in the Magna. :D

What do they call it??....road kill!!

BMK 10-28-2004 01:43 AM

I'll sponsor you for a year in the car on the track..

Craig

Anne just handed my some small "M" stickers. Looks like she is prepared to sponsor the car..

$ @ 1:18 scale =..:confused:

Think it will be to hard to work out. I'll just pick up the race fuel costs for a year.

Bernie

On the proviso that I get second drive.. ..**)

While I may only be in dreamland with my 1:18 McLaren, Dad had a hands-on role with his friend's M8D McLaren during the height of big-banger sports car racing in Australia. The M8D is perhaps the most famous of the McLaren Can Am racers not only for it's fantastic race results, but for the fact that Bruce McLaren died while testing one in June, 1970.

Here's a shot of the car at Amaroo, driven by owner Barry Singleton. That's Dad with the cool 70's flares arming the kill switch.
