Quick jacks
 

Hey there everyone, well even though I have an injured hand I could not lay on the couch and do nothing.
So I went back to work and welded my quick jack pieces together and mounted them to my car.
I have only mounted them with bolts normally used on timber patios, but atleast I can see how they looked.
I will get some lengths of all thread and chrome plated acorn nuts to suit when fitting up for final assy

I am fairly happy with the way they have turned out.

They look good. The threaded rod and the acorn nuts all chromed or powder coated will make a big difference.

Whats the distance from the back edge of your bonnet to the the point where the scoop starts to rise off the flange and what length is the scoop?.

I am still hopeing to have the car registered in time to drive to Goulburn for the Nationals (will be gel coat white if I get there).

I mounted my scoop straight of the directions on the ERA site.

with quick Jacks?

To my understanding the quick jacks were used with racing cobras as a way of having somewhere quick and easy to place a jack to lift the car up when it was in the pits

Firstly there is no 'silly question' on the "Forum" - just silly answers..:LOL:

Seriously, this is how I learn about the marque.

The Quick Jacks on the front and back of the Cobra allow the pit crew to lift the car in the pits.

A frame slips into the quick jacks (both) and then it is pushed down. This frame is not unlike a giant hand truck. Has wheels and a similiar lever/push down action.

I think it was a requirement that the crew person who lifted the Cobra had to stay with the frame to ensure it did not drop. I also feel that they were only allowed to lift either the front or the back. Safety did not allow them to lift both...:confused:

Obviously, these are now replaced with on board lifting devices or with air operated lifting equipment used and placed by pit crew.

However, if you watch F1 GP cars come into the pits after a session you will see pit crew use a manual lifting device similiar to the quick jack style. My understanding is these lift the F1 car for a momment allowing on board computer systems to go to zero. Sensors under the car then stop to allow the re set.

They have sensors both monitoring lift and down force etc. etc. You will see this done just prior to the F1 GP car going into the garage.

Guess some of the old style things in racing are still used - the F1 GP cars do not have the quick jacks though!!

Hi Boxhead,
your car is looking very good and progress seems to be moiving along well (October finish date?). Nice quick jacks too did you make these yourself as I will be after some soon as I want to do some in black finish.

I got templates from Mike for the quick jacks and cut them out from steel plate useing an oxy torch.
I am happy with the way they have turned out.

Yeah I know it will be a hard task Leeroy but I still have my fingers crossed for Nationals.

Yep..thats the details I'm using Boxhead.

Just looks maybe that my scoop is a little shorter and not down the bonnet as far as I thought it should be.

The RMC comes with a narrow moulded in scoop which I cut out as it was nothing like the original.

I have a wider but shorter scoop much like yours to glass in.

Thanks Boxhead. Near as damnit to identical.

The only diff being that 40mm extension on either side of the front of yours. Mine finishes at the 582 mm at the front without that extension..

What are you doing at work at this time.....You after a promotion or is the missus cranky with ya. ;)
