Default Chinese whispers

I heard through mum that dad ishaving a great time!

He has been to see alot of the touristy stuff and is enjoying all of the food etc.

He has been down to see how Macca's works over there and is getting some good ideas.

While he is away - we were going to run the Cobra at the Nostalgia drags on Sunday, but I cant afford it I was going to see what the car ran before he does all of the motor stuff.

I'm willing to take sponsorship - contact me via PM to organise to forward me cash

It's funny how things work out. I'll be in Beijing on Sunday. I'll then fly up to Yantai in the Shendong province for the week and then back to Beijing on Friday. I'll be in Beijing for the week end and fly out Sunday afternoon.

Let Bernie know if you talk to him.

Cheers

Finished my work in Yantai and now I'm back in Beijing.

Staying in the Beijing Hotel which is some nice digs. The Chairman from Taiwan is staying here for reconciliation talks with the Chinese premier. They have booked out 3 whole floors and it's a big deal over here.

I'm off to check out the Great Wall tomorrow which should be pretty cool.

China has changed a lot in the 7 years since I was here last. A lot more cars on the road and a lot less bicycles is the most obvious change. The whole standard of living has improved a lot and it looks like their economy is really going strong.

A lot more personal freedom too with many of their old laws being repaled. Can you believe up until a couple of years back you weren't allowed to marry whilst at university. I guess the theory was that a wife/husband and kids would distract from your studdies.

A few decades of a one child policy has created a generation of people without brothers or sisters (at least in the citys, the rules are different in country areas). I know what that's like growing as an only child. My Wife has 3 sisters who are close and it makes you realise how important family is. I wonder how it will affect the Chinese in the coming years.

Cheers

Hey Uncle Mike..

While ya over there checking out the great wall, will ya bring back some hints as to how to built it quickly.

We in the sunny north have been thinking of building one along the Queensland/NSW border.

That should keep that southern riffraff on their side.

Try putting some barbed wire and an electric fence on top.

You know what they are like - bloody persistent trying to improve their quality of life.

Just struck the Cobra up after 3 weeks staying out of the sun in the garage - we have hit that glorious time of year - blue skies and 24 degrees constant - Life in the sub-tropics! what a life.

No doubt the monsoon kids will be chiming in!!!!

Went to the Great Wall today. The scale of this thing is awesome. It was a cloudy day so the visibilty was down but you can still see the wall snake over the hills way into the distance.

Les, we could use some construction tips as the engineering in this thing is incredible considering it was built by hand and it's right on the ridge line ov some very steep mountains.

Cheers

Mike, that must have been one awsome lego set they used.

To budding photographers.... Mike's pic is an excellent example of how to stuff up a good shot...stick someones mug in it.

Uncle Jason, Refer to Pete's post.

Hi Mike.

Looks like you are having warm weather. The wife and I were there about 6 weeks ago and went to see the wall at Badeling where it was snowing.
I have posted a few pics of Cobra's that I saw whilst I was there.

I just put my ugly mug in the picture so's you could see that a Cobra car club shirt made it to the great wall of China (to bad about the fat ba$tard inside it).

Back in Melbourne this morning. Tired but reluctant to go to bed since it'll stuff up my sleeping routine.

Might go out to the shed and weld stuff. Got some new toys to play with too.

Cheers

Sorry Mike,

I hadn't been on since I posted the original thread...

Dad is back today and no doubt, once the dust settles he will fill you in on his travels.

You may have only missed him on the Great wall by a few days (maybe even hours)...

I heard he brought some toys back too For me which is even better

Aussie Mike

Yes, just missed you on the wall. I'm in awe of that country. What can be built using people power only!!...

Beijing until last Wednesday then X'ian to check out the Terracotta Warriors etc. Flew out last night from Shanghia.

Now to catch up on some sleep.

Bernie
