What you been up to??
Been pretty quite on the Aussie Cobra site lately and I have been wondering what people have been doing to their Cobras .
For me its been a new clutch and flywheel after the blow up at Heathcote. Ended up with textralia clutch that all the guys on the LS1 site have been raving about. All fitted up but not in car yet. (also have nice wall clock made from buckled alloy flywheel) Took the opportunity to tidy up the engine bay while the engine is out, also shrouded in the radiator and fitted remote oil filter and cooler. Cut the Radiator down 50mm and will fabricate a cold air intake over the next few weeks. Have sussed out a big brake package and if funds become available will fit those before the Nationals. Thats about it . Soooo.. what have the rest of you been upto??:D Phil:D |
Hi Phil
I've fitted the clutch (Spec stage 1) to the motor (LS1) and fitted the transmission (T56) and fitted all that to the chassis and then organised a tail shaft locally and fitted that. Now, after the fun at Winton and nervousness about the Spec and the T56, I'm not sure what to do next. I've been buying some bits and pieces (lights, fuel filler, gauges etc) and probably should buy the VN fuel tank now. Perhaps the radiator after that. Based on your comment about shortening your radiator, it might pay me to get one made a little shorter so that I can also organise a cool air intake? Look forward to hearing how your new clutch goes. Hey there Phil (stanhope), can you give me the daetails about tailshaft maker so I can organise mine?

Hello David
Yes I arranged it with a firm in Adelaide called Hardy Spicer (perhaps they also have branches in other states). I have a policy of not eeping track of my spending so I can't be completely accurate on the cost but I think it was around $400 in total. My set up is the same as yours but probably you should measure yours just in case. I would be happy to take your measurements to them to organise it for you if you like. I could them ship it up to you. I have a rather special transport arrangement of $10 on a single parcel anywhere in Australia. They initially sold me the front yolk(?) which I inserted into the transmission. I then slid the yolk out 20mm and then measured from the mid-point in the yolk itself through to the face of the round thing at the front of the diff. Since yours is the same as mine, I think that would be the only measurement I need to give them. I hope this helps and let me know if you would like me to do anything with them. Philip Chisholm |
What I have done........
I washed mine the other day..........
When you have an RMC thats all you need to do.... |
Hand brake lever fitted

And i hope to have something to race at the nationals. i will race it if it has wheels and a v8.:3DSMILE: oz |
Got most of the finish assembly of the cobra back together after 6 months at the painters!! Lined the doors up last weekend and they already are in need of further alignment:confused: Still need to sort out cold air intake but will run with pod at this stage. I wish I had the lower radiator to be able to fab. up something which would come straight in over radiator as Phil talks abot. (CR builders take not of Phil progress) put 350lb springs in from as thought the 450lb ones were a bit hard?? Need to get alignment sorted to seehow it handles as I have not had any alignment dne as yet. Always plenty to do though.

Gee... I feel downright slack, you guys have been doing heaps. I have been travelling a bit, just spent some time in Perth and the gold coast.
However I have been shopping. Got the steering rack and will get all the new jag bits today, so we can rebuild the front end. Got all the diff oil and additives (that was fun tracking down additive for diff). Will start making the rear shock mount brackets tomorrow and then it may start looking like a billy cart (soon). Progress has been slow, but shopping has been flat out. Churchy |
What i've been up to
Hey stiffy
I've had someone wash mine... That as expected when you have a Superformance:3DSMILE: cant afford the fuel to put in in now, but i sure looks good.:( |
Painted the body and i am waiting for a good day to bring it home from work .
Regards Paul |
Hey Oz...Lets be truthful here. :)
You are the only fella I know who'd turn up at a track with no cobra and put your ute on the track ..... and beat most of the cobs there :JEKYLHYDE You're addicted...go on...admit it . |
Come on everyone, get some new pics in your galleries so I can see what your all upto.

Hi guys,
it has been a couple of busy weeks. Everythings of the body now and it will be down to the fibreglass people to fill in all the holes I stuffed up, including prep work to the engine bay, under guards under body and a final gap to the doors, bonnet and boot. The body will be completey prepared and undercoated with everything being painted except for the exterior. The block and heads are going to Rhemac Motors in Gawler to start the re-build and the headers and sidepipes are going to get heat treatment in Melbourne. Im waiting for my rims to get back from OZ Wheels where the inside rims have been increased by 1" all round. I ordered them to small when I had them made originally. Ive been looking for some tyres that have high sidewalls and have found some 285/40/17s rear and 235/55/17s for the front. I cant wait to get the car back and start bolting things on for the last time. (yeah right). Boxheads right, how about posting some pictures so everyone can see what stage were all up to. Regards. |

Hey Phil ,
Just a question about you Wheels you got from OZ Wheels . Did you have any hassle passing rego with them especially since they are Pin Drives . I want to use the same for mine . regards Paul |
Not too much due to that terrible four letter word - WORK
New stereo fitted and some suspension tweeking (ongoing) Not much on the to do list. Must be ready for something new! Still waiting for Superformance to put a realistic value on their Daytona - might be a long wait. |
Kevin, I feel for you mate.
I know exactly how you feel. I looked at mine for 6 years and it was essentially finished. Inspected, approved but not registered. Kevin, for what it's worth, looking at my cobra in the shed was the biggest motivator to me to get back on my feet again. Take care, It'll happen. |
