Classic Revival Wiring
Hi All,
I'm wiring up the Cobra at the moment and it's a source of confusion for many of us. I've been working it all out as I go and thought I'd do some wiring diagrams of each circuit as I go. Hopefully these will help anyone else taking on the job of wiring up their CR. The first one is the Head lights. I wired High and low beam through relays to keep any high current out of the switch assembly. all the switch is doing is switching the earth that triggers each of the headlight relays. One of my concerns was that since this is an open top car there wouldn't be much to stop someone turning on the headlights and draining the battery when the car is parked. For this reason I've set them up so the lights will only come on when the key is in and turned on. They also turn off automatically when you crank the engine. The parkers are on a seperate circuit that can be turned on when the ignition is off as I figured I may want to leave them on If I'm away from the car. The tail lamps and parkers and instrument lights are all LED lamps so they use very little current. Leaving them on for an extended period shouldn't flatten the battery. So here's the first wiring diagram and I'll add some more diagrams as I progress through the loom. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...ght_Wiring.JPG I must thank Leeroy for working out the colour codes for the Suzuki switch gear. Edit: Just updated the drawing to include the Relay Pin outs. Cheers |
Mike ,This is top work and will be really worthwhile for the electrically challenged.
If you use LEDS for the indicators will there be enough resistance for the flasher can?? Phil:) |
I sourced a Flasher can from Narva designed specifically for LEDs. It's an electronic unit that doesn't rely on the load to regulate the speed it flashes. I also wanted a square can that would plug into a standard relay socket. this keeps the wiring tidy. It's a fairly new unit to the market and your auto parts supply might not have seen one before.
It was a bit pricey at about $49 but it'll probably never need replacing and it solves my indicator headaches. I'll find the part number if you're interested. Cheers |
LED flasher relay
Mike, I have the relay that is needed for led lights a no load unit it will flash one single led filament. I sell to the motorcycle trade for led indicators
Regards Barry Nelson. |
Bugger, I should have thought to ask you Barry. I guess most newer bikes must be running LED's these days. I'll have to ask you haow much they are at the meeting tonight.
Cheers |
club meeting
Mike are you going tonight I'll have some parts with me
Regards |
Yep, I'll be there. I need a Cobra fix.
Cheers |
Very cool Mike.
Wiring scares me! Ben |
Great diagram Mike, I have all mine written down in a large build manual.
I am not that well adapted to using the pc for that sort of thing. |
Had a good chat with Barry on Thursday night. He's got some excellent wiring goodies from the Motorcycle industry that will work for Cobras.
He's got a flasher pack that'll flash LED blinkers no trouble regardless of load and it's significantly cheaper than the $49 I paid. He's got a good range of LED bulbs to suit our bayonet style fittings and some neat looking side indicators that are easy to fit and wire up. I'll post some more detail when I get it. Cheers |
Can you mix LED lights with normal ones?
The side indicators sound interesting. Are they E marked or similar? Cheers, Ben |
Hi Ben,
Yes you can mix LEDs and regular bulbs. Barry sent me a pic of the bits he can supply. The side indicators don't look like they are E marked but they may not look too closely at them anyway. I reckon they are a neat design and look t be very easy to install as they have a large nut on the back of them and you just need to drill a round hole in your panel work. http://www.clubcobra.com/photopost/d...electrical.JPG Cheers |
Perhaps if we knew what model they came off they would be OK???
Ben |
They are an after market Motorcycle unit. They look very similar to Mazda 6 units and you could probably pass them off as them.
Cheers |
The mazda 3/6 indicators are the one Ive eyed off, and they look pretty damn close .:)
|
I am interested Barry!
How about some pricing on the indicators and flasher. PM me if you want to keep private. Cheers, Ben |
BEN you have PM call me
Regards Barry. |
Will call you tomorrow at a reasonable hour Barry.
