What a weekend

Well I am 1 week late in posting this but it is the first chance I have had.
The Finke desert race was on over the Queens birthday weekend just passed, and what a weekend it was.
I decided to tag along with a work mate as he had a spare seat in his car, After packing my 1 litre bottle of scotch I watched as he packed 2x 30 boxes of 4x gold in his esky.
We headed of late saturday arvo with our destination being approx 150-160 kls down the race track, where we would set up camp with some other mates who where working the second fuel stop for 3 mates on a race bikes.

This section of race track is on what is known as "the whoops" it is best described as like an ocean swell that is about 4 foot deep from peak to trough and the peaks are about 20 ft apart, some are bigger and some are smaller.
After a great night with plenty of laughs and even more drinks I rolled into my swag under the cloudless and star filled night.
I awoke at about 7.00am Sunday to below zero temps (water was frozen) and watched in amazment as my mates kicked on from the night before by getting stuck deeper into tha esky.
I couldnt help but follow and reopened the bottle of scotch (great way to warm up).
The race cars had a 7.30 amd start so we figured they would be getting to us at about 8.50 am, and sure enough we had guessed about right.

Once the cars had gone past we packed our cars and left our fuel stop mates behind, we where of to Finke (we had fuel for the same 3 bikes so they could head back the next day).
After stopping along the way to help broken cars and other cars that had run out of fuel we finally reached Finke and watched the bikes come in.
Again we had a great night with even more laughs and more drinks, and as per the night before I slept in my swag under the stars.
Waking up the next morning we where out of bed earlier as we wanted to watch the cars leave Finke, they took off at 7.30 Monday morning, we refueled the bikes and tidied up our camp area, Jumping into the car I couldnt help but laugh as I watched my mate pull his last can of beer from the 60 he started with and say "1 left for the drive home"
We made it back to town with about half an hour to spare and watched the bikes come home.

On the way down on Saturday I spotted an old car of the side of the road, Ronda and I headed down there today for a look (allways looking for a rod project) and here are some pics of what I saw, It isnt in too good a condition so if I get it it may be just for a garden ornament.
