Default Will it Bolt up?

My old 289 won't pass muster for ICV rego so I'll have to get a newer windsor.

Will my existing toploader/bellhousing combo bolt up to the newer windsors (say 5.0HO c.1994)?

Can I use my existing flywheel and big clutch?

Everything fits and is working quite nicely now so I want to change as little as possible.

Any experiences/tips/traps would be greatly appreciated.

Default Not Sure

HI Lobelly,
Not quite sure but I do know that the 94 engine has a few very suttle changes compared to the previous engines.

It would be best to steer away from the 94.

My 2 cents

Phil

Default what about....

I'm able to use '92 or later US car engine.

If there's a particular year (year range) I should avoid I'm keen to know that too.

Hi LoBelly. Herewith your problems, but nothing that can't be overcome.

Firstly, the flywheel..... your 289 would almost for sure be a 28.2 oz-in. unbalance. The later engines (certainly all the EFI engines) are 50 oz-in.

Clutch should fit if it's the standard 10.5". Early clutches were 10" so you'll have to measure and maybe have to change flywheels anyways.

Bellhousing should fit.

Cheers

Could you not use your exixting flywheel and harmonic balancer assuming both are 28.2 oz.? Also, your clutch should work well regardless of what engine you choose. Or you can take your flywheel down and have them add the extra weight.
