No Matter How Hard You Try
WOW!
Some people tend to forget what a Cobra is or stands for, it was a race car that was put together from what parts Carroll could con out of people and put together a car with a simple idea, make it lite and give it a much power as possible. While I appreciate and admire an authentic replica, they are still replicas, what does interest me is when a builder much like Carroll puts together a car with what is available today. I think we should call our cars "Tributes" to the Cobra and enyoy recreating how the original come about in a small way. If you want to put 22 inch wheels with a pink paint job, go for it, I would like to see it. If you want to be sure you have the correct formula for Guardsman blue when you paint the car well I would like to see that too. Don't ever squash imagination or creativity, because that is why we have a Cobra to replicate in the first place. My 50 cents. Phil |

I might be chiming in here a bit late, but those Saltflat wheels are not too dissimilar to the type of Halibrands used on the 6 Le Mans replica's. I have a picture of CSX 2137 with these wheels, but not in the right format to upload here. The original Le Man's cars used a steel Dunlop racing wheel but the later produced replica's used the alloy.

wheel offsets
Gav, what offsets front and rear are you running.. I need to clear my NISSAN calipers and I am not sure whether these will do the job? I fitted a set of American Racing Rims 18 inch to my Cobra on the weekend to see what they looked like. Apart from the fact that they didn't clear the calipers they looked bloody awful! YUK! I need pos 36mm on the front...

Any aftermarket wheels that will fit Nissan Skyline will be fine? :D I expect most wheel places will know exactly what is required for Nissan Skyline fitment. I can tell you that Supra's don't require as much caliper clearance, stock Supra wheels will also not clear. Some wheel manufacturers will tell you which wheels offer high caliper clearance. Some even offer same wheels with different pad heights to clear high calipers. Curved spokes/curved centres are your friend. I'm also going to struggle with caliper clearance. |
Tell me where to measure and I'll be glad to help\

Wheels
Gents, I connot begin to tell you how hard it is to find suitable wheels.... You need a min of 34mm to miss the Nissan Brake calipers. Most wheels have the offset stamped inside them... But baiscally if you measure the rim depth front and rim depth rear it will tell you how much posi or nega offset you have. Get straight edge lay across rim face and measure into where wheels bolts up (inner face) then to the same on the outside edge. Basically if you have 300mm outer and 320mm inner then then you have a 10mm posi offset. (I think??) I have to go for a Japanese 3 piece wheels which is hard because in isnlt a Japancese car...Doh!
I might start a new thread and see what other have done? SpookyPT |
