Who has the oldest Cobra replica

I think my Cobra would be one of the oldest in Australia so I was wondering if anyone had one that was older.
My car is registered as a 1974 model but was actually built in 1984 which would make it 22 years old.
So lets see how many older ones we can find.
Cheers,
Bryan

I often wondered this myself.

Good thread!

The big question is,
Brian are you the oldest Cobra owner?

Sorry, but I couldn't resist.

We have a couple of what I think are Arntz Cobra's up here that I have heard to be between 25-30 years old. Can you say 427 side-oiler? :D

If I remember, I'll ask one of the owners and get the exact details.

I finally gave up trying to find additional information on Le Batard. There is a title number in the chain of title from Ill, which is reported (by Ill. DMV agents) to be from 1980, but the records are destroyed. My engine block is from June 74, and the transmission is from 1973. The serial number is on the frame, motor box, hammered onto the heads and the block. Due to the serial numbers and the custom interior, I think it was a turnkey car from the late 70s. Over 150 CC members looked at a post to that effect last year before a CC crash with no comments to the contrary.

I have an Arntz which was initially sold in 1983.

Granted I am not in Oz, but pointing out the Arntz's were around at least that early.

400TT 10-06-2006 05:48 AM

Don't Arntz's originate from the late 70's?

Of the three cobras used in the Gumball Rally, one was an Arntz. I think that movie came out in the mid to late 70's.

Gumball Rally came out in 1976.

Looks like our oldest replica up here in QLD is 1979 completed Arntz. Still owned and enjoyed by the original builder. Even runs an original 427 side oiler.

We also have another Artnz that was completed a few years later. It is also still owned by it's original owner and of course runs a side oiler.

A recent Motor Trend Classics issue featured a Cobra and Daytona used in The Gumball Rally. The producer of the film was interviewed and stated that two real Cobras and two real Ferrari Daytonas were used in the film. No mention of any replicas.

And filled in 1974-1975.

Two Arntz Cobra replicas were used (purpose built in March 1974), but only one made it to the actual movie release and the other one ended up on the cutting room floor.

Bryan, I think you beat me by a few months (or years, depending on viewpoint)....

My Dax was delivered to Oz (Canberra) in January 1985 (2nd Dax in the country as near as I can tell). It was mostly built over in Perth - the original owner was seconded over there for 18 months. The rego papers say 1st registered in the ACT in January 1988.
