Tail lights
Does anyone know if there are any Hillman Minx rectangular tail lights that do have a amber blinker and are E marked ??
I have a pair from the states and they dont have a amber panel for a blinker nor are the E marked.
Thanks

G'day slow 427
I've looked into this myself. I couldn't find any L542's (Minx) lucas lights that were either e marked or with amber blinkers. Some photo's of original cobras appeared to have amber lights but it's the colour of the reflecters that has deteriorated in the old photos that gives this impression I think. Personally I really like the look of the L542's over later round lights as they are quite flat. I know if at least one person who has fitted a flasher in the light but the light is not very bright so this wasn't something that I wanted to do. (last thing you want is for someone behind you not seeing what you are about to do) Instead I went for something completely different.

Slowy,
Stef has done a beutiful job with his tail lights.
He has retro fitted them with LED's. The yellow LED lamp shows quite well from behind the reflector part of the lense.
I am also going to go this route and will fit a pair of trailer rear lights for rego.
Bodgy I know but a guy's gotta do what a guy's gotta do...
Check out Stef's gallery for a look.
Happy New Year to all.

G'day folks,
I've been playing with L.E.D.s for a while and they don't perform too well in the sun ! I will keep trying to sort out how to make them show up in sun light... I think it's something to do with reflectors and their physical depth....something we don't have much room with in a Cobra.
I work slow.., don't hold your breath for results.. . . . ..

Hey everybody, counting down the final minutes at home (kids!) Gav, thanks for the compliment however Rob is correct in saying that the sunlight makes it harder to see the LEDs. My wife always complains about not being able to see the indicators when she is following me during the day. It doesn't bother me too much as my lane changing is usually done well away from anyone behind me and I take extra care (because of what my wife said) should there be someone close behind. I will stick with this setup anyway as I like the look too much!
Slowy, I here there are guys that can alter lenses, ie: cut and reglue clear or amber sections. This would solve the indicator visability issue however they would not pass rego as they are still not E marked. Good luck!
Happy New Year Everybody!!!
Stef

Hey I'm the only Slowy here!!
Slow 427 you didn't happen to buy these off ebay recently? I quizzed the seller of these and he sent me better pics but confirmed no E stamp or indicator to my questions on these lenses. Seems we were of the same mind but I asked before I committed to a sale.
Would agree with the guys if your set on that type of lense look, modify them to suit although you will need to engineer with something legal ie cheap landrover or similar before you swap. I've settled back to the old L691/2 lense options.
Cheers
The real SLOWY!!

Thanks guys Stef LOVE you car and are going to copy you paint job.(I hope you dont mind)
I was hoping that there would be a easy way of fixing this problem , but it looks like i will have to cast some amber ones up with a E marking on them,
So if anyone is interested is a pair drop me a message.
Thanks

No problem Slow 427! Silver is a great colour!
Slow 427, tried to pm you but comes back undeliverable, give me a call on 0416 10 80 80 and I will answer your question and thanks for the compliment. The CR looks great in silver with stripes, the one at the nationals with orange stripes looked great up against mine, whose car was that? Pretty sure it was a CR. Will you be going for the "warpaint" version, ie: rondells with numbers and vintage decals?
Stef
