Once bitten you tend to go a little too far!

Happy new year all

Now I don't know how far any of you take things re Cobras but I thought I'd start this thread to see just how far we take this Cobra thing that seems to run through our veins called venom.

This is what I did some time ago, I got an EXTRA mobile phone (yes, an EXTRA mobile phone) so that I could choose a particular number to correspond with my license plate and make of car! 0427 COBRA1 or 0427 262721. Crazy I know but I love it. funny thing is the phone has sat in my office for over a year without even being switched on whilst still paying the monthly bill on it!

What crazy thing have YOU done in the past? I just want to be sure I'm not crazy!

Hope there is someone out there, sure would make me feel better! ha ha!

That's a good one Stef!

I know someone who has a separate wardrobe for Cobra clothes, and buys anything Cobra related he can get his hands on.

Ben

stefanog 01-01-2007 05:38 PM

Phewwww!!

Thanks Ben, I thought I was the only one!

Surely there are more of you out there  Ben and I couldn't be the ONLY ones in the Cobra world who do these things! :JEKYLHYDE (I'm assuming it's you that you are refering to!)

We won't laugh we promise! ;)

Guilty as charged

Some time ago I thought a race car in the house would be good for any number of reasons**) **) It's made buy a guy who uses old parts and this one is 3/4 interpretation of a 1930's Auto Union (Audi) racer. Yeah Stef, I got it bad:D :D

No, not me Stef, but I am definitely addicted!

I am just collecting Cobra building related expenses at the moment.

Now that looks good Richard, should go straight to the pool room with that.

My missus might have a different take on it but I would love to have something like that, even maybe have a go at doing it some day.

Gav 01-01-2007 11:12 PM

Richard, That doesn't make Cheech and Chongs Harley in the lounge look so strange anymore....
I do like though, don't get me wrong.

Tenrocca 01-02-2007 02:28 PM

I did want to call daughter 4 "Shelby" - but was over-ruled. (In hindsight probably a good thing) - My wife teaches at a girls school and they do have a couple of Shelby's there, so its not that uncommon.

Steph - phone number - yes, you are crazy, man I do love yor car though.

Richard that sculpture is awesome - it looks a big sucker? how long would it be?

Cheers

richardferguson 01-02-2007 02:56 PM

The sculpture was made by a guy called James Corbett from Queensland. It is about 3m long and weighs a lot. This I know because it fell on my leg as we carried it through the front door. The knee hasn't been the same since!

very cool, i need a bigger house!!

aldersonjames20 01-02-2007 03:34 PM

I am going at it a little differently.. when I bought my Superformance I told my wife I was spending more money cause it was exactly what I wanted and I wouldn't have to spend any more real money on it (HAHAHA). So, instead, I am spending money on my garage, which was not mentioned in our little verbal contract. I am doing the floor up ( I think I have decided to go with a commercial grade berber carpet tile ) and then putting in a 4 post lift. I am also emptying the garage of the normal lawn mower type stuff and devoting one whole side of it to a sitting area with a stereo and TV etc. Now, you guys may not think I am out of my mind, but my wife and friends sure do...

PS - Can you tell me where I can pick up a sculpture like that one for under the 100 dollars I will have left in my sons education account?

James

Hey guys I can be added to the list.
I built a 1964 F100 with a blown 400 cleveland and spent over $60k on it .
I have only put 3000k,s on the clock and now want to sell it for $40k.
And cant find a buyer !!!!!

stefanog 01-02-2007 04:27 PM

Very funny James!

I like the tactic you employed though! ...and you are still married! wow! :3DSMILE:

Come on guys, surely we've all done something crazy or even thinking about doing something different!

Rich, sculpture is amazing, can that guy make a replica Cobra? ...just asking.

Stef

I decided some years back to stop buying any old models that looked good, and just stuck with Cobra's. I have got over 50 now, ranging from about an inch long, in metal, plastic, clay, a couple of Daytona's and even a detailed 289 in resin(still in the box unassembled), but none on a key ring.
I even started collecting Cobra badges once.
I'll see if I can get a pic tonight.
Passed up a Cobra slot car last year as I didn't have $90 bucks on me. It wasn't a collectable though.

Beejay 01-02-2007 11:44 PM

Hey Stef,

From memory you have a spare number plate on your other car too?

Ben

stefanog 01-03-2007 01:14 AM

What the??

What plate?? How do you know?? I'm miffed! %/

Asp302 01-03-2007 02:31 AM

I had about six plastic modils every week i painted them different colors to see what my big toy would look like but the wife made up my mind for me

Rob. Smith 01-03-2007 02:52 AM

Aldersonjames20 has the same idea as me. while building the Cobra I NEED certain tools. 4-post lift. ( it fits in a normal shed and there is enough room to slide around under on a gas lift stool,I will be removing and modifying trusses in the future); blasting cabinet,compressor...the list goes on..I-beam with travelling hook, NiCo plating plant, lathe, mill, drill, Tig & stick welders and lots of "junk" to go with it, so much that there is no room for the Cobra parts. They are in the house ! seats and side pipes in the lounge, windscreen and radiator fan in the main bedroom; heater,gauges,headlights...all the small bits on the bed in the 2nd bedroom and I'm on the cobra website in the 3rd bedroom.... I might be a bit cobra "strange" ...people at work say hello and then ask how the cobra is going. I have mastered the technique of being not too informative, enthustiastic and then boring; to answer most people but for any that show any glimmer of extra interest I fear they tend to avoid the subject for a few months afterwards.

I'm not married.
