Great pictures, the Kyosho Cobra on the trailer looks like its still in one piece, more expensive to pull apart than the Yat - Ming models....:)

It really is a "get what you pay for" deal, although you can sometimes luck into a good price on eBay. Here are three of the 1:18 Exoto models I've picked up: first racing Cobra, a Mk II GT40 and a Mk IV. The last one is a distressed model I saw at the Auto Fair in Charlotte. Didn't get it, but I'll second what BJ said that collecting these models is addictive, but not nearly as expensive and the full-size models.:JEKYLHYDE

Here's a shameless plug for my employer, who happens to have a special diecast auction going on this week which focuses on muscle cars and exotics. There are even a few Shelby's and Cobra's crossing the virtual auction block.

Click on the "Salute to Scottsdale" banner on the front page, or type in "Cobra" or "Shelby" in the search field:

www.GoMotorBids.com

We've also got some of the 1/12th scale Cobras in the "Get It New" section.

The distressed model looks great, theres alot of time and effort been put into building the model

I noticed in the back of HURRICANEHAROLDS collection a couple of models with hardtops that appear to be the drag racing versions. Would love to have some info on these models and where they might be purchased.

EXOTO made the competition drags. went to their website--
http://www02.exoto.com/Menu/Menu.asp
but evidently the hardtops are sold out. :(

there are some really quality builders out there!!
Marsh Models are exceptionally good- made in England, hard to find.

Exoto, Marsh, Kyosho, Franklin Mint, Creative Masters, all 'better quality'.

tons of cheap ones at Walmart, KB toys, toys R US, etc. just got to hit them on the right day.
For the better ones?? gotta order them! you don't just find them lying around. ;)

there are internet sites... Russ suggested one above....

type in 'diecast models of Cobras' and look at all the sources!!!

I would LOVE to have that rusted out one!! wow, looks great!! no kidding!!!

These cars are not competition drag cars ,they are differnet versions of 260 and 289 street cobra`s,most of the cars in the photo are made by Exoto, apart from the Franklin Mint car and the Kyosho Cobra.

The BLACK 289 IS FITTED WITH SOFT TOP AND WEBBERS,the 2 red cars are FITTED WITH RED HARDTOPS,one with a holley carb and one with webbers.

The polished aluminium car is a COBRA 260 FITTED WITH S0FT TOP

As far as I know the only 2 companies who have produced drag race Cobra`s are Ertl and Marsh Models

hey,littlecobra 01-16-2007 02:53 PM

that gold one isn't an Exoto dragonsnake???
I could be wrong, of course! ;)

I have a really pretty 'colorchange' cobra, bought from Shelby Inc. at Tulsa couple of years ago. Discounted because a hood latch had broken off. It was in the box; all i did was glue it back on. :)

I have a 'lovely' white metal (rare, heavy) cobra i found. princess blue, red team stripe, very old and very fragile.
I have a ton of 1:64's! Harold, you and I must be kindred.... ;)

paid too much (on ebay) for the 'happy birthday Carroll' hotwheels issued on his 80th birthday. glad to have it though. limited editions are always nice. Great fun to collect also are the 'thunderjet' bodies or complete cars, for the slot track. i could go on and on.... I have a nice colorchange thunderjet body that matches my 1:18 colorchange.
ADDICTION??? yeah.... :D ;)

enough on this thread from me!!
guess we've provided more than enough information!!

ps. i know that those are Exoto 260 and 289's. :)
the blue with red interior.. have pined after that one.. on the cover of hmmm Shelby American or some book by D. Friedman.

Hers a pic of my hotwheels gold plated Cobra,Ive got 67 hotwheels Cobra`s in total.

hmmm. maybe it is yellow. don't know. top photo, back of shelf... gold with gold top. "Motion" on the side, maybe??

anyway, you win. I don't have the goldplate hotwheels. i've seen it though. :D

sometime I'll lay them all out and photograph them. Most are hanging on the garage walls in shelves and hotwheels racks.

The Sebring car (Marsh model), white metal cobra, colorchange cobra, and thunderjet bodies all live inside. special place in living room! I have a good friend that made the "pinewood derby' cub scout type balsa kitcar for me. He painted it blue and white, and did a pretty good job of it. They sell it in hobby stores for BoyScout pine wood derby's, etc.

And, i paid a little more on ebay for my Happy Birthday hotwheels. oh well. it's great great fun collecting them.
I have a small collection for my '65 mustang, and now with the NEW shelby mustang, i'm running out of room! have a nice 1:18 of it, along with a hmmm Matchbox? 1:64. more things to collect. ebay just loves me! (I just don't spend much $$ with them. lots of cheap things.)

more later!
Kristen

Sorry Sambo, for taking over your thread. It is related, I think.

ok. i just looked a little harder. Maybe that is BJ's gold one in the picture?? I was thinking that was Harold's photo!!! You 'quoted' BJ's post?? hmmm. I think mystery solved. :D

Mystery definatly solved !!! Your right that is the gold Baldwin Motion Cobra ,made by Ertl in BJ`s picture.

I know what you mean, ebay loves me too... Ive bought all the Franklin Mint Cobra`s off there, plus most of the HOTWHEELS cars, the hotwheels cars are hard to get in the UK

Hers a photo of my Marsh Models 289 street Cobra.

Randy, the cars you are asking about are in BJ`s collection, they are 1/18 scale and made by Ertl, they come available in gold or black with gold hardtop ,which is removable, they pop up on ebay quite often.

I dont think they are still being made,I have a model of the black one which I bought about 5 years ago now

ZOERA-SC7XX 01-16-2007 04:22 PM

Model cars are just as much 'art' as the full sized cars. Very few of us can afford more than just a few full size cars at one time. As for the scale versions, yes it is addicting to collect these babies, but it lets you have 'em all if you're inclined...I myself have over one thousand models of all kinds, from diecast to kits, and of course promos. I'll never stop buyin' 'em.
