If you're in Sydney try giving Competition coatings a call - talk to Rob, they're at Sefton phone no. 9892 2218. I had my whole system done and I was more than happy. Save yourself the shipping money to Melbourne.

66reno 01-30-2007 02:33 PM

Built, engineered, registered - all in 4 months back in 2003. Have only put 500k's on it since - not painted yet, too busy re-engineering components and getting the mechanicals 100%. Engine is about to be supercharged as per 2003 Mustang Cobras as offered in the States.

Blair 01-30-2007 03:20 PM

Looks like me and 66reno are going to be good mates. Go the Supercharged Quad Cam!

HPC is ok. Have heard/experienced bad results from the Jethot in Castlemaine Victoria, which peels and flakes. I know this first hand...

cameron02 01-31-2007 09:48 PM

Yep,

I have heard good stories about HPC (so far so good on my car too). I have not heard a good story re: jet hot.%/

acecob 02-01-2007 03:06 AM

Get this guys,

I sent an email to hpc Melbourne the other day, with a description of the pipes I want coated. They sent me an email today saying it would cost me $30 to have them coated, $30

Today I rang a mob in Auburn Competition coatings , he wants $120 a pipe
who's playing with me here.
Which one sounds right to you guys, whats it cost to do extractors etc
is this stuff cheap or expensive

Plums 02-01-2007 05:23 AM

I would say that HPC were missing a zero from their quote!!! $300 to do both sides sounds pretty close to the mark...

It's normally around $350 - $400 to do a set of V8 Extractors.

Cobra.au 02-01-2007 05:30 AM

Welcome to the forum Reno. It's about time you got on here. The place was starting to get over run with darkside powered CR cars. :p

Cheers

Beejay 02-02-2007 03:29 AM

Where are the pics Reno?

How much room do you have in the engine bay?

Ben

66reno 02-04-2007 03:37 PM

The pics I have are too large for the forum. Next time the car's outside I grab somemore shots, unless you want me to email them to you.
I have more room than I thought I'd have. The engine is huge (width wise)compared to Chevs and Windsors but its mainly due to the heads. With the covers on the heads I'd have 3/4" - 1" clearance to the inner guards at the front of the engine. Heaps of room forward and rear of the engine.
Compared to a windsor engine installation, the location of the front pulley is approx. in the same spot. Without measuring I think the modular engines are shorter in length. If you were talking about centre of gravity, mine is probably marginally higher and marginally more forward than most. If I was strictly worried about racing the thing I could push it back alot further. However I have worked out my weight distribution, 45% front, 55% rear.

I have modified sump coming from the States that raises the ground clearance by 1.5 inches. If I were to dry sump the engine I would gain even more. It doesn't seem to affect the car too much but its a bit hard to tell at the moment, the spring rates are all wrong in the suspension. They're on my short list and should be changed out within the next few months. I have already manufactured new front upper control arms to give more clearance.
