I reckon thrill per second the Cobras win hands down. Plenty of excitement and noise even if you aren't going that fast. The whole no roof and side pipes experience really adds to it.
There's an old Datto 1600 with a 2L Turbo motor that turns up regularly at the nats. It keeps most of the Cobras in its rear vision mirror. I reckon I'd have more fun being passed by whilst driving in my Cobra than driving it and passing everyone. Yep, Cameron, Phil N and Phil M are some of the guys I really want to chase around the track and hence the choice of going with the N/A 346 motor. I reckon this will be about the most fun class in coming years with the cars being built at the moment. As for engineering marvel, I don't know about that. Besides it doesn't matter how well bolted together it is if the nut behind the wheel can't steer. I think I will be the biggest limiting factor in my cars performance. I am looking forward to learning though. Cheers |

Even at that modest power much time should be spent optimizing braking, handling and getting the power down. A well handling/braking 400hp cobra will often run rings around much larger engined cars....except in a straight line.  |
Actually, I'm gonna regret saying this but I'm really looking forward to seeing the first LS2 or even a L98 cobra hit the streets.
Me thinks that would be an excellent combination. There, I said it.....but will deny that I ever did. :o |
10/10ths
Hmmm, my little black one only has 285HP. Alot less than 300rwhp
Actually if I'm correct 300rwhp = 1.35 x 300 = 405rwhp! Wow. I think that's about what John White has.... But he knows how to peddle.... I certainly learnt alot about my car and race tracks at the Nats. But 285 rwhp certainly kept me busy. I am hanging for this years Nats as I want to see how much I can improve... But you have to love HORSEPOWER! Spookypt |
oops I meant 300rwkw!
|
Whew....I was just about to ring ya mum and tell her to get her money back from Brisbane Grammar. ;) :D
|
Les,
You wont have to wait long to see and LS2 powered Cobra. Ian at CR is just finishing off a turnkey project with an LS2. Dont know who the owner is or whether he wants to do track days. Time will tell. Phil:) PS Dont feel bad Les....the force is strong:LOL: You cannot resist... |

Sambo that will be a really nice car.
What rear end are you looking at?, Warricks new one?. |
Mate I considered that new shortened custom IRS from Warwick but thought the extra $4000 was better spent elsewhere (namely paint). The reco'd R32 rear comes in at about $1500 which is pretty cheap for what you get. If it shatters down the track I can always go the exotic option - I hear with minor chassis mods it goes straight in.

Hi Mike, the other guys are right, a turkey pan would fit in perfectly. Great looking setup the way it is.
Regards. |
Love it
Mike,
Love what you have done. I look forward to rubbing guards with you on the track. I must agree that the class we run in is exciting, some very good competitors and correct me if I am wrong but it is also the largest class making a podium finish hard earned. Yes, I am the weakest link in my cars performance. Phil |
This is mostly for Sambo...but some others may not have seen these videos of a gardener douglas (UK based cobra kit) powered by an LS1.
http://www.gdcars.com/html/media.html There's two videos but one is a 36Mb ride in the Demo thru the countryside on public roads, the other a 21Mb (low Res) high speed run around Elvington track. I really like the Elvington footage. Sambo, this will give you some idea how hard these things go. |
