Jim, When you list the answer to Micks question regarding what's being stripped from the harness then we'll be more sure of what we want.
I do have a question regarding the brake signal.....is that really needed?. I thought that was only required to unlock the converter on the auto transmission. Is there any other reason I'm missing? And....remember......Schipps and I are buying in BULK. A whole two harnesses. ;) And....if you gonna make em after your honeymoon then you'll prolly appreciate the distraction. :JEKYLHYDE . When are you getting hitched? |
not 100% sure on the rest of the loom but it seems like it goes
under dash to pedal goes to front of car so maybe ot fusebox and maybe to headlights etc the 2nd ecu plug basically runs through the body harness and it seems more and more newer engines are doin same thing |
instead of buying the loom form holden which goes all round the engine bay
we are goin to make the loom with new plugs and terminals and wires with only whats needed not sure why brake signal is needed but i just fit it in the plug if i get time ill go thru my diagrams and see where the loom goes but i think its worth around 1g from holden |

I plan on putting the ECM to the top of the passenger foot box, so it will be inside the car. I'll bring the engine harness thru the firewall then across to the passenger footbox. Part of that harness also goes down the gear box and incorporates the front O2's etc. The harness you are making come from the ECM, and across to the loud pedal and incorporate the tach, speedo etc . Part will go forward into the engine bay for IAT and MAF, and part will go back to the boot. Whats that large white connector next to the ECM plug in Harness003 pic that I sent you?. That looks like it's the only part of that harness that goes into the holden cabin. What plugs into that white plug?...it has a heap of pins. Cheers |
not sure what the white plug is but i pressume its either power for injecotrs or coils
maybe air con i know the vy and vz has a white plug that powers ecu and coils and injectors i havnt done a 6lt yet cant be to hard do u have a guy to do the wiring for rest of the engine its not hard job just time consuming getting done right you have to trace where all the wires go alot of conversions these days is a full day or 2 worth of wiring just to get engine and the rest working correctly |
Jim, I plan on doing it myself.
My car is already wired for all the normal stuff. It is just this new engine I gotta do, change the tank pump etc., but it all seems like plug and play if the harnesses are correct. Cheers |
whats the old engine
nothin is plug and pray these days hehe 80% of loom u have plugs onto engine u have to trace the white plug wires and find if they are needed the loom u are missing will have 1 or 2 plugs with around 10 to 15 wires labelled to where they go no relays no fuses unless u want the whole engine loom done which will cost more cause takes twice as long to have whole enigne loom done nice with relays fusebox and minimal wires left |
all plugs are on the way
now i just need to know what state u want the loom finished do u want it so u have the least amount of work to do or do u want just enough for the engine loom and u guys supply and hook up the relays fuses etc if u understand how the ecus work then i can have minimal done and wires labelled to what they do if u want minimal stuff done it does not cover phone service thats extra heheheheh thanks jim |

Sideshow, now that you have regained your strength following your honeymoon we can continue this thread.
For the benefit of those thinking of a Chev engine install here is a pic of the E38 Gen IV ECU. |
If you look in my gallery you'll find 3 pics which together show the holden supplied engine harness. This harness plugs into the gray connector of the ECU.
This engine harness is only part of what is required. We also need the harness which plugs into the black connector of the E38 and this is where Sideshow comes to the rescue. This part of the harness needs to be made by some-one with his expertise. The E38 processor controls all manner of things in the holden much of which is not required for our cobras. Sideshow may like to post what the black plug on the processor connects to but if I am correct, as well as the IAT and MAF we need constant power, fused power for the injector and coil parts of the engine harness, output for tacho and speedo as well as other gauges, and relays for the fuel pump and cooling fan and the post cats O2 sensors. Why holden didn't incorporate these post cat O2's in the engine harness has me bluffed. |
Hey Les - a little off topic but would love to look in your gallery and see progress pics of a car :3DSMILE:
|
Mate, I'll get some together and put in my gallery.
The pics that are in the gallery are taken at home when stuff is delivered and I'm always forgetting to take the camera to the shed. Mainly cuz the first wife claims she'll never see it again. Just like the cordless phone which has been up there for about.....ermm 3 months.. Ooopsy, the first wife just said it's been over 12 months for the phone. :o Edit again: Two months for a heater :o Edit again: 2 years for the bedroom TV. ( gotta watch footy) :o Edit again: sheez, now she wants her old vacuum back. :( |
Hey Les, is that a home made harness in your gallery or something off the shelf? Very need indeed.
|
No hurry Les - Dont want you to upset wife #1. Just with 1918 posts you reckon you could put one pic of your car in :).
|
Sambo, that's the holden engine harness.
Was too big to get in one pic and still see all the connectors. Edit: Should have explained better...that's the harness purchased from WASP in the package deal. Tis a standard Dunnydore harness. |
