Transport options
Howdy all. I'm looking to transport my rolling chassis/body from QLD to Melbourne soon. Most of the major car freight companies require that the car can be moved under its own power. I might be able to get around this by using a tilt tray truck at either end, however that's another expense and complicates things.
If anyone has transported their car within Australia in recent years I'd be interested to hear who you used and how much it cost, plus any other details of the experience. Remember my car is not running so that might rule a few of you out. :) Thanks, Paul |

Hey Craig. Either using a contact down here who has a furniture van with a false floor, or one of the major players like Toll, TNT, etc. It's been a while since Warwick moved one using those guys and it normally involves a separate tilt tray truck to Brisbane and then down here in Melbourne, regardless.

Why dont you rail it in a 20' container.you can get it dropped off to your place as well

You could always drive up with a trailer. Just make it a club meeting weekend(Sunday Morning) and bring your camera and notebook. You will get plenty of ideas from the other Harrisons up here.
Also tee up to meet up with Don from Snake Bite. Plus a visit to Warwick's workshop on the Saturday is always very educational. |
All good in theory Craig, but it's 2 days' drive either way which means 4 days off work and $100s in petrol. :)
I'm just looking for the cheapest method of transport so I can put the savings towards more bits for the car. The usual story... |

Yeah it does seem the best option at the moment but down here they want $110 for a tilt tray to turn up for five minutes work. It's criminal!

I had mine (abandoned project) shipped from WA on the back of a truck.
I just looked up a transport company that ran Perth-Melb and from depot to depot $715. The car rolled but had no steering/brakes. The guy who sold it took it to the depot in Perth and they loaded it on with a fork lift. At this end the depot guys helped me to put it on the car trailer. Was all quite painless (except when the car took off when being unloaded at my brothers - ran across his garage and crashed into the staircase - but that wouldn't happen to you) LoBelly |

Thanks Stiffy, been in touch with Doug and have discussed that option. Again, on top of that cost we still need a tilt tray at either end. Currently adding $160 to the cost of freight.
LoBelly - who did you use? Sounds pretty reasonable for that distance. |

I used Jayde Transport http://www.jayde.com.au/ I talked to them because they operated along the route I wanted Also, part of the negotiations in the sale price was that the guy I was buying from was happy to pic up the cost of the transport to the depot. I understand from Jayde that he did what I did and just winched it up onto a car trailer. LoBelly |
hey sambo what date will it be ready,as i know a guy who delivers caravans to queensland from melb very reguarly and he always comes back empty maybe if the date is right he could do it for you and it wouldnt cost the earth

Yes wonder sometimes about some of the freight options. Obviously, if time was not a problem it would be worth driving up for a holiday and cruising back with the Cobra on a trailer. **)..**) making broom broom noises. It will be a big jump ahead once you have the Cobra in the garage there. Well done. |
