Stephen...you don't need any kind of special gun at all, in fact, a 'low tech' cheap gun works fine, and if you clean it quickly and well afterwards, there are NO ill effects at all. After all, it is just 'goop' you are spraying and it doesn't need to be THAT accurate. I sprayed one coat over everything, and then kept spraying over firewall and engine compartment again until I used it all up.

Are you able to post some close up pics. of the finish you got in the engine bay / fire wall? I'm well off painting yet but if I like what I'm seeing I'll know where I'm headed paint wise well in advance. I also note and assume from your gallery that US auto engineering stds. must be pretty lax. Our engineers not only expect our gauges to be less than midway across the car, they don't tend to also allow passengers to steer too!! Cheers |
Stephen...I uploaded a couple of pics into my gallery that might help, although they are not particularly close up. The interior one shows it best.
One shows the interior of the car just after I had sprayed it with Lizard Skin and let it dry. It shows the color it dries to, and the texture. The other pic shows the engine compartment after I had sprayed it with Lizard Skin, covered it with the eventual color I painted the car (British Racing Green Metallic), and had installed a home made stainless firewall over the bulkhead. If you blow up the picture, you can just see the texture in the compartment on the passenger side...or is that the driver's side?...hmmm...no, passenger...well, could be driver...your choice...:) PS your engineers appear to be way too anal about gauge placement!!!!! |

should you decide to use Lizardskin I can send you the spraygun that was sent over from Lizardskin to apply the product, just give me a call, Mando 0407 80 70 60. I used it on the entire interior of my cobra except for the doors. The product should be applied to the thickness of a credit card and as others have indicated is very easy to use. Ive got some pictures in my gallery that shows what it looks like. The pictures of the underbody treatment is not Lizardskin, its bodyshutz. Regards. |

I was trying to pick which shots you were talking about that show the lizard skin finish. Which pics. were you referring to? Also have you tried out your demisters yet? I'm curious whether the air inlet at one end would hinder demisting over a central connection. I'm looking to fabricate ducts too and was leaning towards how you've made yours but wasn't sure if these would work. Cheers |

there is a picture of the Lizardskin finish in my gallery on page 4 top righthand. I havent tried the demister yet but Im not clear on what your asking. My demisters originally came from DRB but after weeks of cutting/ shortening/adding/shaping/sanding and grinding they dont look anything like what I started with. Since making those I have found quite a few different styles are available through Demon Tweeks in the UK and are really cheap.They sent over there catalogue and its got heaps of interesting gear. Merv and Sharon, body schutz is applied to the underside of all factory cars to reduce roadnoise and it also absorbs stones that are flicked into the guards stopping star fractures apearing in the paintwork. Just looks like paint to me!! We need to hear a testamonial about the heat retarding properties. Anybody want to comment as to how well heat is reduced after application? With the demisters I'm not sure if side delivery tends to provide different flow rates to the screen, higher where the air first exits the tube and less at the other end. Std. vents tend to have the delivery nozzle in the middle, presumably for even spread. Can anyone comment on this, other than needing a good demist system? Mine was engineered as a roadster( no roof ) so ADR 15/01 is not applicable meaning no demister is required.This is NSW in 2003.Having to drive a Cobra in Canberra I tend to think a demister would do jacksh#t anyway! Cheers Brett |

cobra bill I approached Rhino liner and they quoted initially a carton of beer then to $2,500 for the job. (this local mob has no idea) I found it to be heavy
