4db over! BUSTED!

I heard yesterday that a WRX'er who lives near me got pinged for being 4db over with his exhaust, too low and wheels too big!

GOD what hope have I got???

I'm tipping he wasn't showing Grandma the local sites after picking her up from bingo, was he? :)

spookypt 08-12-2007 11:57 PM

Close, just cruising through the middle of Southport straight into a QLD Transport mobile roadside check point!

Ouch!!! That's just got to hurt!

400TT 08-13-2007 12:14 AM

I can still remember being with Tim, in his very noisy and very low GT40, cruising out to the end of the Spit(Gold Coast) and straight into QLD Trans roadside inspection.

Every single person, including police, Transport Officers, Tow Truck Drivers etc turned and watched as Tim just idled(rumbled) past them. I caught a few of the officers grinning.

The bugger was that it was also the only way out. We didn't want to push our luck twice, so waited a few hours in the cold until they left.

I can still remember the frantic conversation when we saw what was up ahead. Decided not to turn around in sight, just idle past as quiet as possible.

Its amazing how quiet a Cobra can go when driven under such conditions;)

I've only been pulled over once for an RBT in 40 degree heat.

I said to the Copper, you would pick on a car with no roof - and he let me go without blowing - mind you it was 11 in the morning (the inbetween twilight time)

I tought Oz was supposed to be a place of relative freedom? First they out law guns and your crime rate soars and now they want to measure exhaust noise? C'mon guys get some political action going! If you don't fight back you'll lose the right to own anything enjoyable. Badger

spookypt 08-13-2007 01:05 AM

Ah Craig, the old spit predicament! I did that in my Cobra when it was pretty stock just after I bought it off Scotty!!! And it was loudish then... Difference being I turned around!!! No problems that time as they were busy! Wouldn't even dare to do it now......

Pete, it's hard to drive quiet and slow!!! I stand out as much as loud and fast!!!!

Yeek!

Yep - wish it was more like the US over here. I really miss my assault rifle - no home should be without one :JEKYLHYDE

Merv and Sharon 08-13-2007 01:12 AM

Geez Badger, we have nothing to fight back with! I recently drove over 12,000 miles around the US and never saw a speed camera! Saw plenty of cruisers with speed guns but no fixed cameras. Found I could drive faster there, within limits, than one can here.

Maybe the Democrats will change all that!

Australia and Freedom don't really fit together. When the country was first settled by the Britts they used us as a Penal colony. :JEKYLHYDE

Don't believe everything you read, Badger. Especially on NRA websites!

Rob. Smith 08-13-2007 02:16 AM

Isn't a cobra an individually constructed vehicle ? And each builder is his own car company. The factory specs are from the shed ! Noise is probably the only thing that they can bite you with. What's those fines like ?
Smithy.

spookypt 08-13-2007 04:22 PM

Smithy, built to satisfy current ADR's at the time I'm afraid!

The fine... = $'s + Possible loss of rego and DEPT of Transport PIT Inspection! URGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

750hp 08-13-2007 04:48 PM

The problem really seems to be with the Qld Transport staff and their roadside inspections, not to mention their ability to simply send you a letter demandind you come in for a complete inspection AT YOUR COST because they "think" your car might be illegal.

I drove beside heaps of marked police cars in my Cobra, and was not pulled over one single time. One came over to have a look at a servo, and I told him not to get so close to the sidepipes because they're hot. In two years, and after heaps of fun and good memories, a simple letter from Qld Transport signalled an end to it all.

WildBill3 08-13-2007 05:43 PM

God i glad we dont have to deal with that kind of harasment here i feel for u guys il rev her up once for ya next time out!!!!!WB

sambo 08-13-2007 05:57 PM

Craig - that's pretty harsh treatment from QLD Transport. I've not heard of letters in the mail like that down here in Victoria.

Cobrabill 08-13-2007 06:51 PM

You guys "down under" need to start feeding your politicians to the sharks. And i say that becasue you can't shoot them,'cause they've taken your guns away.

I think a lesson learned from your situation Craig was the extent to which the department will stoop to identify non-complient cars.

In your case it was from displaying your car at a show not from a random roadside inspection. This implies that a qualified inspector of the department attended that show specifically to identify suspect cars.

Remember for public servants to work weekends means overtime/penalty rates etc., so it was a specific "operation" conducted by the department.

And it is only going to get worse.

sambo 08-13-2007 09:07 PM

Or take the plates off prior to the show and cover up the rego sticker?

Very true Les. That is of course assuming that my car wasn't compliant at the time it was sighted at the show. As the car was never inspected, it was never determined if the car was actually illegal in any way. It may live again someday :)
