Isolation Switch

What rules are there governing the isolation switch for racing ie where must it be. Does the driver need to be able to get at it when belted in etc.
Thanks
Bruce

CAMS requirements are that it must be capable of being operated by the seated driver. They are no more specific than that.

I wanted a switch and my sparky recommended an all aluminium version, will need to get back to you with model and make, but he's used these in race cars and you simply drill a hole through the switch handle and attach a pull wire somewhere back near the drivers seat - too easy.

Beauty of the switch is that it is a 4 pole so kills all functions definitely when turned off, down side was that it was about $90 but in hind sight that's cheap insurance.

Can send pics of my set up if you like, very similar to TC - tony cram's arrangement and will pm you with model details.

Cheers

I have the main switch on the dash.

I also have a secondary switch in the boot/trunk. There is a kill (red switch) just near my right hand that cuts the fuel pump imediately

ANDRA (Drag Racing) requires that the switch be operable from the exterior of the vehicle...... CAMS and ANDRA rules are rarely the same!!!

90 bucks is cheap compared to price of a cobra

u will not find a cheap 4 pole unit they are all over 80 bucks

small club racing u usually dont need a cable

but as u go more serious then u need a silly looking ring pull or handle with cable to the key sitting otuside the car with a sticker near the handle

It's a Narva master switch 6 - 36 V capability part number 61075 and you buy a matching face plate part 61076. Quote RACV membership at Bursons and switch went from RRP $118.60 to $90.15. V cheap insurance.

Look in my gallery and you will see a side shot in my boot towards the battery and partially visible is the switch. Will take some more shots for you though.

Cheers
