Big Brakes part 3 (Huge Brakes)

Hi All,

I was in Europe last week for work which meant I missed out on the nationals :( To compensate I stopped in to the Hi-Spec factory down in Kent. This was a short train trip out of London where I was staying.

I ended up bying a set of brake calipers for the Cobra that should distort space and time when applied at high speed.

The fronts are their Mega-Monster 6 Piston calipers which are huge. I put a couple of regular soft drink cans in the pic to give you some perspective.

They will be matched up with some 343mm DBA rotors and by my calculations should just squeeze inside my 17" front rims.

The rears are a big 4 piston caliper that will work well with the Ford Territory 328mm rotors. These will probably take a bit more work to fit in and I may have to machine some clearance into the back of my rims.

They look great Mike  Now how much did they cost

I think you should change your nickname to "Mad Mike"!

Hey is that the beginnings of my sidepipes in the background of the top pic? :)

Aussie Mike 10-03-2007 08:49 PM

All 4 calipers were about $3K once I claimed back the VAT and paid duty on them.

They are CNC billet construction and are have a hard anodised body and pistons. They are very light weight for their size and are quite low profile compared to many designs out there so I'll have a better chance of fitting them in my wheels. They also have full external dust seals so they are street legal.

Cheers

That's the beginings of my street side pipes. I cut my old ones down to make the dump pipes I used at the track. I did the old ones with the MIG and the new ones are going to be all TIG welded.

Here's Boxhead's side pipes under construction which I hope to have finished in the next week or two. Unfortunately these will be the last set of pipes I make for anyone for quite a while. I just don't have any spare time lately with work and family comitments. I'm barely getting to work on my own stuff.

Gawd Uncle Mike, this is not a locomotive you're trying to stop.

Remember, It's norty norty to lock em up. :p

boxhead 10-03-2007 10:15 PM

Make sure you get stuck into your own car for awhile, enjoy the family and take some long drives in the black betty.

Now that I have made my under car system for rego (as oppsed to using the side pipes) I am not in the made rush I was afew weeks ago.

I am happy to see some pics though.

Your brakes look as if they are big enough to stop a train, The joys of mods after a VIN number has been obtained.

Aussie Mike 10-03-2007 10:16 PM

There's no booster in the system at the moment so you have to stand pretty hard on the pedal to lock them up at the moment. I'm hoping to get the power and light pedal of the boosted system but with the feel of an un boosted system.

I may be switching to a 1" bore front master cylinder and a 3/4" rear to give a firmer pedal with the new calipers. At the moment I'm running the standard CR setup 3/4" front and 5/8" rear.

Cheers

Oi Mike, What's with showing us pics of Orange&Mango and tropical punch softdrink cans?.

You trying to tell us something?

Mind you, guess that's better than some of the other stuff you southerners drink. :D

Crownies and XXXX gold forever.

Aussie Mike 10-03-2007 10:39 PM

I bought a box of them a while back for the kids but they taste pretty ordinary. Hense they were the only thing left in the shed fridge un drunk.

Cheers

No blasphemy here Les! Beer manufactured north of the VIC/NSW border... well we know what that does to people. :)

Rebel1 10-03-2007 10:57 PM

No blasphemy!! ... wot ya mean, wot ya said was indeed blasphemous.

You Victorians wanna remember that the Storm won the premiership ..... so wot do you think most of the storm players cut their teeth drinkin? ......XXXX of course. :)

Wot do ya think John Ribot was drinkin when we trained him to run a footy club?. ..yep XXXX of course.

That stuff you guys make is pure ......ermm.... well lets just say I wonder how you train the cats to sit on such little bottles. %/ You should be reported to the RSPCA. :D :D :D

sambo 10-03-2007 11:12 PM

Les - try something from Perth or Tassie. Beats the hell outta that chemically controlled VB/CUB/Fosters.

And let's keep footy talk to the Aussie variant of the game! :)

Rebel1 10-03-2007 11:29 PM

Ahhhhh Sambo, ..... Aussie variant of the game?. :JEKYLHYDE

You mean the variant wot Geelong play?.

Aren't they known as the CATS?? :D

sambo 10-03-2007 11:34 PM

Les, Les, Les. Well at least we have the Chev thing in common.

Rebel1 10-03-2007 11:38 PM

Ya beer is still Cats pi$$ tho.

Back to ya brakes Uncle Mike.

Aussie Mike 10-04-2007 12:57 AM

Nice to see a Victorian team win it for a change. %/

Cheers

stephen low 10-04-2007 08:25 PM

Oy - two Victorian teams thank you!!

Nothing wrong with that other code particularly as the Stormers have wallopped the best those northern states had to offer this year. They will be right up there next year too I'm guessing!

Was a bit fuzzy headed this morning as I managed to score a seat last night at the Storm club presentation dinner, and bugger me there are some big boys in that team.

That earlier talk here about stopping locomotives would be nothing compared to when one of those blokes mowed you down on the turf!!

And as for the XXXX rubbish, it's the same as making love in a canoe - f@#*ing close to water!!

Cheers
