Default Engine Build update

The engine build is nearly finished now, 347 stroker, (all forged) starting to look really good.

Had a couple of weeks off with a knee rebuild and was a little surprised when I went back into the workshop to check on the build progress.

Eddie had rummaged around in his piles of stuff in the workshop and attached some of the "stuff" he had lying around to my engine.

Then he explained that I couldn't keep the bits, at that point I tried to pick up the engine with my hands and run, sadly the knee wasn't up to it.
Original manifold and weber carbs. Looks really nice but with my engine configuration and date of build commencement, I couldn't use them if I wanted to.

Anyway this is what it will look like when all torqued down, with twin impco gas carbies

Will soon be bolting the rest of the drive train to it and installing into the chassis, Go-Cart time.

I havent seen one of them on my LS1.

All jokes aside, it looks mighty fine, love the webbers.

Yes, I love the webbers look too but I am running LPG.

MVR might notice a completely different system.

I would love to pick up a wrecked registered cobra and "rebuild it" just to utilise the age of its registration. i.e. Get an older carbied big block going.

Oh well....one at a time.

I will video and post the startup soon, even if its on a test stand.

Been there, done that. Highly recommend it. I reckon it will become more common. Find an old fixer upper. You can also swap engines as long as you stick with an engine that meets the same level of compliance or later. So you can go bigger very easily.

My guess is that it was crashed and has had a reshell?

If it was less than 15 years old, it will also be listed on the written-off register. Just make sure it was a repairable write-off. You can use vCheck.

Getting a copy of it's VIN number and doing the searches will tell all.

I phoned "Ben" on the mobile on the advert.
He didn't seem to know a great deal about it's history, but it seems that the CHASSIS was from a previously registered in Queensland Cobra, and now it has a new shell/body ??
He seemed a little vague, but may have just been a little cautious about talking to a mystery man on the other end of the phone.
Could make someone a cool Race Cobra.

Saying it was previously registered aint worth S#!t without a VIN number. That's what you'll need to produce to prove it was previously registered.

Oh yes I definatly know it needs a VIN and the date it was registered would also be required (so you know what engine emission specs you need to meet).
I need to get my first one finished before I look at a second one.

If I took on a second car, the courts would end up taking the first one. As you say boxhead, one thing at a time.

With how isolated we are I can see the need to build a trailer as well to get to the nationals and things like that.

It all costs lots,

No trailer for me when going to the Nationals.

When do you think your car will be good to go Hogster?
We could look at driving down together?
When Alfie is ready he can join in too.

That will be no good if you two drive your cars to the Nationals, the only prize I might have had a chance at was longest distance traveled.

When are the nationals? I d be keen to go down. No point having a cobra and towing it down! If it had a racing engine in it I could see the point but with an emission complient engine it would use less fuel be far more comfortible and dear I say it MUCH MORE FUN

I doubt I'll make next year, but definitely 2009. Whats that distant laughter I hear.....The natural enemy of the cobra builder is the deadline..but I should make that comfortably

I've been messing round with mine for nearly 6 years now. They are never truly finished, just evolving.

Something in my psyche probably doesn't want to finish it. I'm having too much fun tinkering with it.

There are 2 major events each year.

The first is the Shelby Fest in Victoria, I think this is somewhere in March (I am trying to have my car assembled and registered to drive to this)

The second event is the Nationals, these are at Goulburn NSW, first weekend in October.

When do you think your car will be ready Alffie?

4,000klms is a long drive in a cobra, specially with a state limit everywhere. Then there are animals vs fibreglass issues.
The there a weather issues. Short trips, Darwin - Alice no problem.

I would rather tow for two days and still be able to drive and hear when I get there.
